I just found out I have a 73 in the class (and I have been pulling my HAIR out trying to do well in the class). Talking to the professor does nothing (he's a bit of a prick) and I'm not sure what to do. The end of the semester is getting close, and I'm worried. Should I drop? What do I do? Please help!!
Also, is there anyone here that got into nursing school with a "C" in any of their prereq's?
DROP there are some schools, for ex mine that will not let you take over a class once you have taken it and received a grade. Especially if you are doing a program where they are only taking into account certain prereqs. My school looks at 6 classes. I have all A's a B and one C. I am kicking myself bc of that C. I would say drop it and retake it maybe this summer. try researching the professors online before you register for the class. that really helps a lot. that way you dont get stuck with another jerk professor. i go to a site class called ratemyprofessors.com
ah, vegas, I'm actually not that detailed, at least not by nature. I'm just experienced at it. I was stretched to do a lot of this with my kids. One had a terrible time in math, for another it was time management, for another it was writing, for another it was science, for another... hm, actually, the youngest has his problem areas with life skills but not with school work.
Your life sounds BUSY!! Just how many kids do you have? Life skills are a lot harder to learn. I'm an adult and I still make mistakes! Ok, I'm also a little stubborn, so yup... I know my strengths (I think) and my weaknesses (I suck sometimes ). I just hope when I get older, I'll be a lot happier! I just hope I don't end up like the cranky ones who seem to walk around with constipation everyday!
I have five. My oldest is 20 and my youngest is 13. Two are away at college, two are in high school and one is in eigth grade. It has been (is) very busy at times. It is really busy a lot less often now that some of them are driving and they have gotten so much better at things like not forgetting their lunches or homework and at doing things things like cooking dinner. I homeschooled them for a while, which was easier and busier in some ways and harder and less busy in some ways. When they go to school, it is almost all helping the person adapt to the schoolwork. In homeschooling it is as much adapting of the schoolwork to the person as it is adapting the person to the schoolwork.
Does your teacher have a TA? (teaching assistant). Mine did and she was a life saver, as I was taking Micro during a very difficult time. If not, see if you can find a tutor. You can get into RN programs with a C, and they DO look at withdraws from the science prereq's, so I'd look for help first.
I think micro over all is just an intense class ..keep in mind during the summer term it will all be compressed..but it isn't impossible . It was one of t
He hardest classes I have ever taken but I taught me a whole different kind of work ethic. You reallly need to stay on top of everything in that class . The most helpful thing for me was reviewing my notes after each class and rewritting them . I am not the brightest student, In micro I had to study twice as harder than most students, but I worked my butt off to pass that class and I am happy I did . I would say if deffinitly one of those classes that will test you , make you doubt yourself but ultimitly you will come out a better student . Good luck :)
Goodness, I have so much advice to give lol, I don't even know where to begin.
Read your textbook chapters thoroughly, and try to be an "active reader." Highlight as you read and constantly go through the processes in your head, before moving on to a new topic. Make many, many flashcards - buy the half sized index cards. These are especially good for a process and concept oriented class like microbiology, because they force you to break down the info into each and every step and concept. I would always have hundreds of cards for each microbiology test. Buy a write and wipe board and draw out the processes and concepts. Things like the lytic vs. lysogenic cycles of bacteriophages, the different virus structures, an entire flow chart of naked vs. encapsulated viruses and single vs double stranded DNA or RNA viruses, flow charts for the immune system part, the entire process of HIV infection within a cell... etc, etc.. When your taking the test try to take your time.
If you ever have any questions about a topic in micro, feel free to PM me. Micro was a difficult class but I actually enjoyed it and still remember most of it. I did well because I followed all these study habits, but it definitely was a challenge at times. It helped that I had a nice teacher, but even though your teacher is lame I know you can do it!!!
I actually made some poster boards up into catagories and then x the box that each virus/bacteria belonged in. (like dsdna, ssdna, stuff like that) Also, for finals (cummulative) I made a chart to show what catagory Eukarya,Prokarya,,Virus, etc that each microbe belonged in. It ended up being a lifesaver, because we did get asked to catagorize on the Final.
