I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
So far, they are 100% successful. We were just told on Tues that all the June grads have jobs.
Whoever told you that is lying. Many June grads of the MCC cohort have not been hired by Banner and were recently told that they will be on their own to find jobs. The vast majority of Banner job listings say specifically "No New Grads Considered".
They also will not discuss how we get "off the hook" for the 6K tuition if we can't get a job with Banner. They are now saying they are going to increase the time limit on how long you have to get a job with Banner, thus extending your "good faith effort" time. The deal was originally that, if by no fault of your own, you don't get a banner job offer in 45 days, your contract is fulfilled and you owe nothing.
Sounds like that isn't the case anymore. Now the song they are singing is: Can't get a banner job in 45 days? No problem, take 60, then 90, then 180, etc... Sounds like an attempt to weasel out of the contract and thus discouraging new grads from seeking jobs with different hospitals.
Frankly this whole situation is getting ridiculous. Either get enough new grad positions for the cohorts, or nullify the contract and allow us to get jobs at other hospitals. Simple as that.
Have you both gone through the Banner interviews yet? Or are there just no offerings that meet your desired speciality and location? I am just wondering how that process was. Thanks!
All of us have been through interviews, but there are not enough positions. Example, 6 of us were setup to interview for only one position at Gateway and there are no more jobs in the East Valley for new grads. The only positions are at Boswell, clear on the other side of Phoenix. At this point I don't care about the 1 hour commute, but again, it's the same story, 10 of us need jobs in my cohort, but there are only 6 positions and we will be competing with every other cohort for them.
I'm really not trying to complain too much, just trying to tell it like it is. Whoever said all the June grads were placed in jobs is flat out lying. Maybe they are trying to make you feel better, or maybe they are severely misinformed. Whatever the motivation, that intel is wrong.
Many of us will be unemployed when we graduate just like every other graduate from every other professional discipline. No nursing shortage here.
Hopefully when you graduate the job market will be better.
If they don't have places for you after graduation do they then forgive your tuition commitment obligtion?
The deal was we MUST accept a full time Banner RN position within 30 days of graduation. However, if we aren't offered a Banner position within 45 days of graduation (after due diligence on our part to try to get one) then we will have fulfilled our contract and will owe nothing.
However, now we are being told that the original 45 day time frame is "flexible" and we now have 60 days to get a banner job or longer if needed. This is not a good thing.
If I take another job at another hospital and 3 months later Banner calls with a job offer, I either have to quit my current job (and burn that bridge, no one likes trainees that quit) or turn down the Banner offer and cough up 6g's (which will likely burn that bridge, as well, since I did not hold up my end of the contract).
As of today, still, after going to multiple interviews, 10 of us don't have offers and prospects are becoming even more slim. We all passed our finals, though, and will begin preceptorships next week.
I don't understand how they can change a contract with "45 days" and decide to make it "flexible". That isn't holding up their end of the contract. If no offer in that 45 days, you should be forgiven. Is there something in the contract that lets them change that? Good luck to all of you.
How does the contract work for the possibility of finding jobs at hospitals in other states in the Banner network? Does the Banner contract allow you to look outside of Arizona and accept an offer (if there was one) from a Banner hospital in another state?
yes. according to what they said at the info session i attended, you can get a job at ANY banner facility in the 7 states they are in, and it will fulfill your contract.

"I am curious how you found out that the October 2009 cohort at GWCC is for Bachelor's degree holders only??....is that just rumor, or did you hear that from a reliable source??....I believe that will influence people greatly in taking the time to work on the application for October GWCC cohort, if they don't have a degree.......will they be announcing that at the informational meeting??"
I was informed by the head of the program via email. I was trying to find out if I can defer my July 09 cohort selevtion (which is part time at GWCC) to the October 09 cohort and was informed that it was for persons with Bacelors degrees and that it was at Gateway.
