I interviewed for the nurse fellows program through Banner about three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything! I was talking to another girl there for an interview who said that her friend (I know, I know, don't listen to anything like this, but I can't help it!) got a call a week after her interview offering her a slot. Has anyone else interviewed and heard anything?
I don't know why I'm so freaking out about it. I'm already accepted into Mesa to start in January (I deferred) but I WANT TO GET INTO THIS!
First, about how many people attend the average information session, and how many people apply for the program? There are no published averages - you can expect about 50-75 people, all in varying stages of their pre-reqs. They are tight-lipped about the number of people they interview - but doing some backwards calculations I estimated they interview anywhere from 80-90 people to get 30 candidates per session. I can't even get how many essays they wade through to get 90, but I'm sure it is lots.
Since Maricopa's nursing program is open to everyone, what does Banner base their selection on?
Based on your essays and an interview. Read this thread for info on the interview.
Secondly, does anyone know (this may have been answered before, sorry) how many sessions start each year, is it two?
There are currently three sessions - one beginning in January, one in July, and one in October.
BTW, the program is awesome...
I'm glad to hear the program has such rave reviews! I was just offered a slot last week for the March cohort...and so excited to start! Really ready for this career change! I can't believe the time has finally come!
dbwheeler,Are you going to the orientation at Gateway? Perhaps I will see you there! Do you know if they are interviewing for the March program or will this be for the October program?
I would imagine that the next available cohort would be July. Banner has already started placing for the March cohort. In order to apply for the Banner program, you are required to already be on record with MCCD as having applied for the nursing program with all prerequisites complete.

Good job! I'm in the midst of my career change now, and it is absolutely awesome. You will love the Banner program - and if you don't, there are hospitals lining up to pay off your contract and hire you...
pfillbert,
Just wanting to see how the program is going for you so far. I was reading your posts when you were waiting to get in and then finally got your letter. Is it as fast paced as they have said it was. I applied in November and i still haven't heard anything yet. I am hoping to get my letter sometime this week, this is killing me. I am already scheduled to start the LPN program in April over at Estrella, but like you, i really want to get into this program with Banner.
Stopnik,
OMG that is so awsome. so company's really will pay off contracts?? I did not know that. I really hope I get accepted. I was wondering though, if they list reasons on the letter if you do not get accepted. Guess we will see when I receive mine. Hey, Im still hopeful and crossing my fingers.
Due to the accelerated nature of the program, you are within one year of graduation when you are still in Block I. In fact, I began my externship with about 13 months to go...they made an exception at GOOD SAM for Banner Fellows. Note that is Good Sam - I can't speak for other places...
I was just wondering if you could fill me in with any info about the nurse extern program? I just got accepted into the Banner Nurse Fellows program and now that I know you can start the externship after just 3 months of starting, I'm curious what the application process is like? Do you get to choose a department or do you rotate like in clinicals? Is it true that the pay is comparable to new grad RN's?
