Hi, I'm currently in the process of enrolling into MCI for LPN. I'm wondering if there's any single parents that have gone through or are currently going through nursing school? How do you balance it? I'm anxious to start school but I'm also nervous because I don't know how I'm going to get through it all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am currently a student in an LPN program. I started in Sept. it is a 2 year program. I am a single mom. It is definitely a challenge to balance home, school work, studying and parenting but it is certainly something you can do. I love that I made the decision to go back to school. Stay focused. If this is something you want go for it!! Best of luck..

I'm a single mom and in LVN nursing school. My children are older- elementary and middle school. Based on my personal experience, it's definitely possible. I think having a strong academic back ground has helped me, as has the fact that I've taken many prereqs for the RN program prior. I have a strong support system of relatives who watch my kids and are there for me.
That being said, it has been important for me to eliminate a lot of extras. I hardly work, school is my focus.
There are lots of moms in my Lvn program. Some are single, others are not. The academic work is easier for some and harder for others. For me, time management has been key.
Thanks guys! I just can't wait to get started with school. Wanting to give my daughter the best life possible is my ultimate goal and I know I can do it!

I was a single mom the last time I was in school, I used Mcdonalds a lot. Not necessarily for their food (actually not for their food) but for their play center. My kids could go play and I could sit and study. It was a win win for sure.....not sure if Mcdonald's agreed lol.

I just enrolled in MCI and start on the 28th. I'm also a single parent of a 4 yr old. I have the support of my family and my son's dad so as long as you have a great support system that will give you that time to study then you will do great!! What state are you in?

Doing it now. My son will be six in two weeks and I'm in school full time with 2 jobs (one full time, one prn). It's a lot, that's for sure but you can do it. Some days I feel like a robot but I'm definitely learning good lessons about time management. Don't let yourself get distracted when it's study time. Buy a white board and teach your child about the human body. My little boy likes the pictures in my books and I teach him when I teach myself. He thinks it's fun (for now haha). Going to the park means i take notecards with me. or he will watch a movie and i will read a textbook. And definitely don't forget your me time. I've run myself tagged before and gotten sick. Now i make a point to take my relaxation time for myself. You can do it! It'll be hard but definitely worth it in the end. That moment will come when you see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I am a single mom and almost ready to graduate from LPN school and you can do it. One piece of advice I would give you is to allow yourself some "mommy time" weather it is a day or just long enough for a bubble bath you have to take some me time so you can refocus.
Sorry I'm late in reading/responding but thanks guys! I'm hopefully starting MCI in either March or May. I know I can do it. I guess I'm more worried on if I'll be able to have time for my 1yr old while I'm school.
Congrats to you for starting soon! I'm in the Va Beach of Virginia. My daughter's dad is not in the picture at all but I have my mom and sister's support.
