Bakersfield College Nursing Program GPA Requirements

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi everyone!

I'm getting ready to apply for the Spring 2015 semester at BC. I'll be applying in June and I'm finishing up Micro right now. Would anyone mind sharing what their overall GPA was when they got accepted? Mine is not bad, but it's not really that great either. I just wanted some possible insight on this. I realize that most people don't get in their first time applying. Any help with overall GPA and science pre req GPA would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I too am very interested in the nursing program at BC and would like information.

My gpa was 3.24, sciences gpa was 3.6. There is a formula that tells them how to calculate a score based on several different things that I have no idea how to do, lol! Then, if you meet the scoring needs, you get chosen from a lottery of others that have met the same requirements. Or, alternatively, you could get a sponsored seat or claim veteran status which almost ensures you a seat.

Hi Beth,

I have applied for BC for Spring 2015 and I'm anxiously waiting for July 15th, application closing date, and to ghear back from the school on a decision. This is my first time applying and I really want to get in next semester. I don't know how they calculate the GPA but u did find a GPA calculator online, for prereqs, I used it to get an idea of what standings might be for GPA :-) It's going to be a long summer waiting....

Hi Wendy,

Have you already been accepted to the nursing program at BC?

Hi JHerrera,

Have you applied to BC?

Hi JHerrera,

Have you applied to BC?

I'm going to be applying to the nursing program at BC and other colleges and universities for the fall of 2015

Hi Beth,

I was wondering if you applied for Spring 2015 at BC or if you have heard anything about application status?

At BC there are two steps when they choose applicants. Firstly, they evaluate your GPA (minimum of a C grade in all required pre-reqs, which is kind of ridiculous to me, lol). They also look at how many withdrawals and repeats you have taken. Then then score and come up with a percentage. Then, you are put in the 'pool' and they essentially pick at random aka lotto. Then, if you are chosen you need to pass the TEAS. They will give you the specific date once accepted. I feel the GPA requirement is too low. I'm an honor student and the head of nursing told me it really doesn't matter. You just need the minimum GPA and that the rest is simply left to luck.

I too am applied for the Spring 2015 semester and waiting for the letter to come in the mail. I've kept in close contact with the nursing department staff as they have been low on office staff this year. They also told me rejection letters would be sent out in September and acceptance letters late September, early October. I got impatient and emailed again yesterday, as it's late September (and this is nerve wracking, I didn't get in the first time. I wasn't chosen in the lotto. FYI a rejection letter will say you qualified and your grades made the qualifications but you were not chosen in the lotto) and this is the response :

"My apologies but we have been delayed in the office, rejection letters are expected to go out late next week and acceptance letters, two weeks or so after that."

Good luck everyone!

I'm late to the party, but we just took the TEAS yesterday and I've been accepted for Spring 2015! I got a sponsorship thru San Joaquin hospital. Pre-req. GPA = 4.0, TEAS score = 92%. Anyone else in for Spring?

I realize this post was done a year ago, and im sorry for starting back up again so late! I was wonder if you were an Employee of San Joaquin when you received the sponsorship? I am going to be applying for the sponsorship and have a 4.0 gpa and am currently studying for the TEAS and would love some advice on how to obtain the sponsorship! Sorry again for the super late post.

First you contact the education dept and they will add you to the "interested" list. Once their application period opens, they will send you an email with the application and instructions. You have to submit the app, 2 teacher references, 1 job reference, and your transcript. They will then review all the applications and set up interviews for the top applicants. They then make their final selection after the teas results come in. Be advised that if you compete for the sponsorship, you cannot be entered into the lottery at BC, so don't apply unless you have the grades and recs to back it up. That said, you still have to apply to BC either way.
