Baker Students Waiting For Acceptance Post Here!!

Published

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I would start a thread for all of us awaiting letters from Baker for Spring/2009. Maybe we can all support each other while we are waiting and share any information that we "have heard" that may be helpful!

If you really think about it, there were 156 who applied the last time, leaving 100+ who did not get accepted. I'm sure most of those students probably reapplied. Them along with all the first time applicants makes it a pretty high number again! It looks to be a VERY sticky situation for points.

When I went in yesterday to pick up mine, I was #156.. The girl there told me that 200 are applying....Yeppers, lots more this time. and my chances are now down to zero....Oh well maybe I will do good/great on the hesi...

Hi Baker Students,

I picked up my application packet and was #165!!! Wow, is all I have to say. There is still one more day left to pick up apps.

Okay, lets not panic just yet......sigh/zen..... a lot of these people have probably transferred some things in or repeated classes *....so.... I think with a little help from God we may be okay. PLEASE GOD!!! A lot of people with something like 22 probably think they're in a pretty good spot.....it's just too bad that won't be enough anymore. :sniff:

I will try to stay in my "happy place" with a little help from a bottle of wine, and stay positive!

Okay.... has anyone heard how the ranking system works....for first and second time students?? .... This is the rumor, please let me know if you've heard this and how much truth is in it....... first time people take their points and divide by 24 giving them a percentage and second time people take their points and divide by 25 giving them a percentage...... so a second timers 23 weighs less than first timers ..... have you heard this?

LOL! I think I'll join you! :p

No, I have not heard this and I truly hope this is not the case. That wouldn't be fair at all! I'm on the verge of changing career paths all together because this is entirely too stressful. Seriously, I'm on the verge of having an anxiety attack. It's not like you can ask someone from the nursing department if it is true because they wouldn't tell you if it where. For some reason they don't think they need to be upfront with us, but at the same time they say we shouldn't believe rumors , but rather come to them directly with our concerns/questions

Palmari, I'm sure you still have nothing to worry about, how many points do you have? .... your a second timer right? soooo..... I think it just evens the playing field for first timers with high scores.... Find your happy place...it will all be over soon, promise. Don't change path you've come this far, and worked soo hard... and I really believe getting in is the hardest part. after that its hard work without ALL the stress of making it. WE'RE ALMOST THERE!!

Palmari, you have worked so hard, don't give up! I know exactly how you feel, getting that denial letter was horrible. I too have contemplated changing careers. We have to keep each other positive and wait until February. Anxiety is keeping me up at night and I am scared to death. Let's do our best to support one another! If you need to talk you know my email. Remember, we are all in the same boat.

Jabraham99, thanks for the positivity and words of encouragement. Yes, the aniexty is really becoming an issue. February seems so far away. It's even worse now because of the new "rumor" about the percentage thing. I don't know...I hope it is just a rumor. It doesn't even make sense how that would even work or be fair. I'm so tempted to call Karen and ask about it, but we both know what good that would do. I'm sure I will be sending you an email within the next week just to vent.

Rciroski, True I may not have anything to worry about, however I am a worry nut. My life has been stressful enough these last 5 years. My 4 yr. old had open heart surgery 2 yrs. ago and has other medical problems, although one would never know because she acts like a wild child! So for me to have this added stress of getting into the nursing program, I don't know if it's worth it. Also, if this new rumor you heard is true who knows what it could mean for some people. I really don't get how the percentage thing would/could work, if true. Maybe I'm being biast but I don't think it levels the playing field at all actually. It's all just a gamble.

Palmari,

When I turn in my packet on Monday I am going to ask....

I'm very stressed as well wondering if my score will be good enough to get into this program of so many repeaters......My whole world is wrapped up in this program.....3 kids, no insurance and my husband could be without a job anyday....trust me, I'm feeling the stress! ..... I've been taking a poll of scores around campus and there are NO 24 points so far, if that helps to ease your mind( I really hope it does!) as a matter of fact there were MANY MANY people who scored in the 50's on their NET w/ 4.0's ..... no worries.....say your prayers and let God take care of the rest......hopefully we will be studying together very soon :D
