Baker College NET test

Published

Hi everyone!

I will be taking the NET at Baker this spring. Does anyone know if their test includes A & P?

Specializes in Acute,Hospice,Rehab, QA, Nrg Management.

Does anyone know what Bakers Prereqs are for the RN program?

Thanks.

Here are the pre-regs if you test high enough in the math.

Comp I

Comp II

HUMAN BODY-HOLISTIC

NURSING PHARMACOLOGY

WORD PROCESSING

INTRO TO WINDOWS

INTRODUCTORY ALGEBRA

GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY

HUMAN ANAT & PHYS I *

HUMAN ANAT & PHYS II *

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

MICROBIOLOGY*

ORAL COMMUNICATION

Here is what Baker doesn't like to tell you though.

The * means that it has a lab which is an additional class that is two hours a week extra.

They also have where you can test out on some classes, which they did not tell me this either, I figured it out later. If you pass the test you do not have to take the class.

-Comp I

-Word Processing

-Algebra I

-Intro to Windows.

Also Comp I does NOT count towards your GPA. You have to do it but they do not count it against you, it is also this way with the pre-algebra math classes if you do not test high enough, Algebra is the only one that counts towards the RN program.

Another thing that sucks is they grade the A&P lecture with the lab. My teacher said that even if you do really well in the lecture part and bad in the lab the give you a 74% which is a D- because even if you have a good grade in one if you have a lower grade in the other and do not reach their "point levels" they automatically give you the 74%, there is no using the other half to bring the bad grade up. What?

Hope this helps.

Shannon,

Are you applying to Baker's program for the fall? I detect that you are not happy with them. Can you please give me some insight. I am taking my net at the end of the month and I am scared. I can't believe how many students are applying to the program.

I want to add that what Shannon says is right, you have to have those pre-req and then depending on what you score on the compass, you might have some remedial classes you have to take before you can take the higher level classes.

Not all classes count toward the GPA they use for the application to the program. I dropped Comp1 because I had issues. I was newly pregnant, my 10 yo daughter had died 1 year previously, and it was my first term there. So 4 weeks in, I dropped because every story they wanted us to read had someone dying in it, and I was just too emotional. If I knew what I know now, I would have not dropped it, and just stuck with it. I lose a point because I dropped it, but a lower score in the class wouldn't have counted against me because the class isn't figured in the classes used to figure your GPA on your application to the nursing program.

So while it is a prereq, not all prereq matter score-wise.

I am nervous about this too. Right there with you.

I am applying for Fall 09. I am not unhappy, I just do not think they tell you everything up front. I started off going part time in the Fall and at that time I was going to go into Surgery Tech because I wasn't sure I would be able to afford the 2 year commitment of the nursing program. The person signing me up told me don't worry the pre-reqs are the same for both programs, only 1 additional class for nursing. Wrong! I changed after the 1st semester and I took a class I did not need. Imagine if I changed later, a lot is different and that is wasted time and money. Then after taking some of the classes I find out that I could have tested out and once again I wasted more time and money.

Second, I hate the fact that you loose points for transferring. Macomb has way less classes to take ahead of time, but the competition is harder. So...I am staying with Baker, but going to also do the Macomb pre-reqs that Baker does not require so I have a shot at both.

Third, I wanted to do 17 hours this semester in order to catch up and try for Spring 09 entrance, but no go they said it would be too much. They also do not tell you that you have to be done 1 whole semester before the start date with the classes and the NET. They want you to be done by fall to start in spring, so what am I to do in the winter, take classes I do not need to keep my financial aide? I think Macomb only requires you have most of them done before you apply, and that you can even do some while in the actual program.

My friend took 42 credit hours at Baker for her program and then talked to Macomb and found out that she took way to many classes and could have graduated all ready at Macomb.

I just wish they were more clear about everything. I worried for months about getting a B+ in comp I because I took it online and the teacher was hard, just to find out that it did not count. It seems like I spend my life in the Academic office fixing things these days.

I think I am going to send my bill to Baker for treatment of the ulcer I have now because of them...lol. I wish you luck on getting in the program, they should take in account what we have going on in our lives. I had to stop working a week ago because I have a disabled child, worked full time, and now I am going to school 13 credit hours. There is no way I could do an A with all that. I did 10 hours and have a 4.0 and it was a real struggle, but you have to do perfect in order to compete.

Sorry, if I sounded cranky, it's just it sucks paying for classes that doesn't count for anything, and then what to do if I put all of this in and don't even make it into the program.:nurse:

Sorry to hear about your loss, I can understand how the class would be hard for you it is pretty morbid.

This is my point about them, how come they do not tell you that the class doesn't hurt you and that a lower grade is better than repeating. It's like the longer than can keep you doing the pre-reqs the better.

Wanna hear something funny...

My first semester I made the Dean's list and I was so geeked, then I found out about the high GPA needed to get into the program. So, it is not so special because probably everyone trying for the program is probably on the dean's list also. Duh...lol.:lol2:

I even went and took a pic with my phone of my name on the list posted at school. This semester I was like, um great. :p

LOL I felt like that too. I always go and look at it to see my name up there... I made the president's list this time. So I kind of feel special again... LMBO!!!

One of my friends is now taking A&P 2, Pharm, Path and her computer classes. So that is 15 credit hours for the first 5 weeks and 15 credit hours the second 5 weeks. Total that is 17 credit hours. I can't believe they wouldn't let you do it.

What are you taking this time? I have Pharm and Path. Taking the Pathophysiology at the AH campus because I heard the instructor at Clinton Twp was awful.

I am in my 3rd semester, 1st full time. I have pre-algebra, Comp II, A&P 1 and A&P lab. I wanted to take the oral communication also.

I think maybe because I am just now getting into the harder classes and they want to see if I can handle it.

Boy did you make a smart decision! The Path teacher is awful. I am taking Pharm, Holistics, Comp II and Inf. Can't wait for this to be over!!

First, Shannon, I had speech and comp2 last time, and with A&P2 I would advise against it too. There is as much writing in speech as there is in comp2. Who do you have for A&P2?

Jabramam, who do you have for holisitcs? We had to do a 10 page paper, last semester. I have Pharm this time on Monday nights. The guy at AH is really great so far. Several people complained about the path teacher, so I switched out of it. I am so glad I did.

Just this last term. :yeah: I am just hoping to be one of the ones to get in. I am really scared that I won't.
