bad idea?

I was in a similar situation last semester...the application deadline was May 15, but I needed A&P, Chem, and Micro in order to be able to apply...and I really needed A's in all 3. Well, I dove in and did it...got A's and got accepted to my program.

Was it difficult? Yes, but it was just what I had to do if I wanted to start NS as soon as possible. I didn't want to have to wait.

I figured it helped prep me a bit for when I am in NS...to meet crazy deadlines...lots of tests all in the same week, etc.

You'd be doing the same thing I did plus English. It's definitely doable if you are VERY determined. Do NOT ever let yourself get even a little bit behind in any class.

You will feel a great sense of accomplishment when you finish that last final, trust me! Good luck!

You have to ask yourself what your "life" schedule looks like in order to be able to do this. What all else is going on with your life that could take up your time? I believe you can do it like the other poster said. It takes hard work and determination but it could be done.

On the other hand, if your life is busy in any other way OR if your the type that has a problem with procrastination then I wouldnt do it. Those are some pretty big classes to sacrifice if you overload yourself. Why is it necessary to get in now?

I would live to fight another day and apply next year. This way I could give my all to the classes I was taking and not go stark raving mad by the end of the semester. Just a thought

would i be killing myself if i take english, microbiology, anatomy/physiology, and chemistry all in one semester? or is it doable? 'cause i can only apply to nursing IF i do this. otherwise, i will have to apply next year..

Your profile says that you're 18 which means that you don't have much college experience. For that reason I'd recommend caution.

On the other hand, if you took multiple AP classes in high school and did very well then you can probably handle it.

Did you take chemistry and biology in high school? Did you do well? Are you an excellent student? Are you a hard worker? Are you committed to devoting yourself to your studies?

The subjects are not terribly hard but they are time-consuming and require consistent effort. Taking such a load will leave you little time for other pursuits.

Just remember, your grades are very important so don't overload yourself, especially just starting out.

I'd say it all depends on your academic style. That sounds like a typical semester from my undergraduate education, so it's definitely doable. But, it'll take focus, diligence, determination and discipline...If that's your academic style, then go for it. If you prefer a more laid back approach to education, you might reconsider taking that extra year. It's up to you.

The first thing I would do is find out if you can get college credit for any of those classes you took in high school.

If not, then the next thing I would od is to check on the colleges and nursing programs policy on retaking classes. Because if you are not allowed to retake these classes for a better grade, I would think twice about your schedule. I personally wouldn't want to take the risk. I took two years to do my pre-reqs because I was afraid if I did them all in one year I wouldn't have done as well. And I'm really glad I did.

But, if you feel like you can take on the challenge, go for it. I will be hard and you will have to be 100% focused. And as someone else said, you absolutely can not fall behind or you may spiral downward.

Just remember that taking one more year to do them is not bad. You may be happier with having less stress. But if you do go for it, good luck, I'm sure you will do well.

I agree that it is doable if you are DETERMINED to make all A's. I am taking A&P I w/ lab, Chem w/ lab, Statistics, and Sociology this Fall. I too am determined to make all A's. I think that as long as you aim for all A's and stop at nothing to get all your work done and study as much as possible, you will make excellent grades even if there happens to be a B or 2 in there. But you have to aim for all A's. Or at least that's how I look at it.

You have to have that drive. You have to REALLY want to do this. You have to work work work and then even if you get a B or perhaps a C, you will have done all you can. That is pretty much the only way it is doable. If you don't have a "do whatever it takes" attitude, you won't make it. I know. I have made that mistake before.

I think if a person has it in them and know they will be able to complete three science courses then go for it. IT CAN ABSOLUTELY BE DONE! and that's to everyone who has doubts.

Well I am taking Chem A&P I and intro to computers. I think it will be very difficult as I have been reviewing the chemistry material, but so far there is nothing that has been impossible to understand. I think we can both do it.

Three science classes at the same time, that's a big risk, I wouldn't take the chance. But good luck.

Yes, in fact, I have tried taking multiple science classes in one semester. I will NEVER do that again. Good for you that you have done it and can maintain good grades, that's GREAT! I still stand by my original answer though- I would not recommend it. That's my OPINION. If one has the option of doing otherwise, I think it is best to take one at a time. Your science grades are VERY important to nursing school admissions officers. I would not want to risk my grades by overloading in one semester. Just my .02.
