All I can say is, I hate parents. Not all parents, but most of them. Not the children, the parents. It's just been that kind of day. Thank you for letting me vent!m3:banghead:

I'm no longer working as a school nurse, but in the business world, and today was full of new and unique experiences for our staff. And none of them good!

There are no pleasing some parents and we just have to try our best with the knowledge we have. YAY for teacher work day tomorrow...student free clinic may mean something gets done :-)

caregiver1977 494 Posts Oct 26, 2012 At my school, we have had lots of problems with parents. We have tightened security of what person can go where at what time (hope that made sense). This can help contain irrational parents.

Especially when they lie......had an athete come in late on the day pf a game and missed an academic. Allegedly "saw a doctor friend outside of the office as a favor" but for what could not be shared...and when pressed for a note was told "I cannot risk a friendship by asking for such a thing, anyway they are in surgery all day and the office knows nothing about it" ..... uh huh...sure! MY BS meter is ringing!!!!!!!!! The AD let the them play...last game as a senior...No doubt over tired and mommy allowed for sleep in......

Because everyone knows that those calls are our favorite to make and we do it for the enjoyment that an upset parent brings to our lives! Puuuhhhh-lease!
allnurses Guide Spidey's mom, ADN, BSN, RN 11,302 Posts Oct 30, 2012 I was one of those parents last Friday. It can be a bit hard to be the school nurse and a parent. My son is 11 - I wrote about this on another thread so sorry if some of you've read it.I don't agree with having dances in elementary school but our school does it. I haven't let my son go to a dance because I've seen from working there that this sets kids up for feeling things that only teens should feel. (rejection).They've come to talk to me about being dumped when a boy asks another girl to the dance. Etc. My son is in 5th grade and I backed down and let him go, thinking it was more Halloween Costume party with junk food. However, I'll be chaperoning. he he he First thing I didn't like is they turned the lights down really low. Second thing was they had teens from the high school as the D.J.'s and they were also the 6th grade teacher's kids. Third thing was the type of music played (hip hop/rap). Fourth thing was the song that came on after about 1/2 hour - a song that uses a euphemism "whistle baby" to teach a girl how to give a guy a blow job. I walked over to a teacher and said "This song is about a blow job" and she said "I know". She told me to find the mother of the D.J.'s and complain to her. Well, no (for one thing she was not around). . . I walked over to my son and said "Honey, we have to go". I didn't make a scene. When I got home I called the principal. I was there as a parent - not a school employee. This was my first real experience being one of those parents after becoming a school nurse. I was one of those vocal parents before with my 3 older kids. I know what you mean about parents . .. I get frustrated too. But, I'll admit to being one today. Screen the music before you let teenagers play music for 9, 10, and 11 year old kids.

At a softball game for my daughter, one of the moms called the school to say her son had a doctor's appt so he could stay and watch his sister. She lied right in front of all of us and her kids. So yeah, trust your BS meter.

Even listening to the radio I find myself asking, "Can they seriously play this on a public station?!" It's really quite disgusting that it has become socially acceptable to use such foul and vulgar language so freely.Complaining about something like that, that can be changed and really needs to be, is not something for staff to complain about. There are quite a few complaints that I get where I give the parent the district phone number and ask them to voice their complaints to the higher-ups to get something changed. What I don't appreciate are accusations that everything is "my fault" including illnesses, lice, state vaccination policies, etc.

Although I did have one father complain that I did a hearing and vision screening and health report on his son before he signed the paperwork to ok that. I know him and called him at home and he was fine being interviewed. It was later that he complained to the principal. If he didn't want to be interviewed, why talk to me? Why didn't the school ask me to do the screening when it wasn't ok'd by the parent yet?Today I got a call from the principal that a H&V screening/health report had not been done on a student having an IEP this morning. My paperwork didn't have the IEP scheduled today - it was later this week. I had this child on my schedule to do today. So, I came over and did his screening and then interviewed mom and did the report. Got an email later asking me to try to get all the screenings done two weeks before the IEP's are due. This is the first time I've been asked to do that. Hey, if you keep changing the IEP's, it is kinda hard to schedule them . . plus, I have another elementary school and two high schools and 4 continution classes and 4 special ed classes. Not to mention my actual diabetic students. I don't know - sometimes this job gets to me. There isn't enough time to do everything. Vent over.
