Backpack on wheels..Is this really necessary?

Published

I know that I have many many.....MANY books to take to class....All I've heard/seen is backpack on wheels....really? Do I need all my books everyday? Opinions? What do you put your books/supplies in?

My thoughts exactly. I've been lucky enough to have parking close.enough to class that I can do it.

I have 12 books for this quarter, I don't have a backpack on wheels. I just take whatever books I need for class that day, plus my notebook and binder and writing utensils, etc. I have seen some people in class with actual luggage, and they don't take out all of those books on a daily basis. Most of my classmates use a regular backpack or a tote bag and it works just fine. Also, for clinicals, they tell us not to bring a bunch of valuable stuff and I conside my nursing books valuable.

I'm not saying not to get one, but I don't need one. All programs vary though so the final choice is really yours to make.

I don't think it's an absolute must but it certainly is helpful when you're loaded down! :o

I am not getting one. The parking lot is two steps from the classroom door. If I had to hike around campus, I'd consider.

Even though my school's campus is small and the walk from parking lot to classrooms will be short, I will absolutely be using a rolling backpack. A couple of my friends who just graduated from this program said it was a good thing to have. Also, my back and neck were injured in a traumatic (t-bone & rollover) vehicle accident last summer and I still have lingering effects. The last thing I want to do is mess myself up worse by lugging a heavy bag everywhere I go.

I liked having a rolling bag, but it wasnt necessary. I bet half of my classmates didnt have one. Why dont you wait and go to class for a couple weeks before you buy one, you may find that its not for you.

I start in September and I do not plan on getting a rolling one. I am going to use a regular backpack, the classroom is close to the parking lot and I can always run out to my car if I need to! :]

I bought a rolling bookbag. But I stopped using it after the 3rd day. We are in one class all day and the walk from the parking lot to class is short and has stairs and curbs. So I had to pick it up anyway. It was big and bulky and just not needed. But if you change classrooms or have a far walk I'd get one. Books and binders get heavy

On the first day of school, I inwardly chuckled at the people who had rolling backpacks. Seven months later, everyone has one but me, and I'm totally jealous.

In my first semester, I had 10 books + notebooks. I have a backpack without wheels, & it seems to work for me. We also have small lockers at my school, so I would leave the books not being used in it & switch out when necessary. I took my backpack to class & pulled out what I needed & put it under my desk. I do the same with second semester. I just look at my schedule at the end of my day to see what's needed for class the next day & pack my backpack accordingly. The lockers come in handy on rainy days when we have to take all books out for exams & this is the only time I leave my backpack in the car. Our exams are usually first thing in the morning, so we won't have to make so many trips outside.

This is my exact dilemma as well. I am considering a Zuca bag. BUT then I think I would injure my back lifting the thing full of books in and out of the car. My other option is a good north face backpack... Ugh. I just do not know if the wheels are necessary. Did you make a decision?

I just broke down and ended up ordering my backpack yesterday. When I went online to look at it it said there were only 2 left in stock. I figure when it gets here in a week and I don't like it I'll ship it back. I think it will work tho. It's an Echo Charlie 2.0 from Oakley. Looks big with lots of compartments to organize all my little things and even a spot for my laptop and iPhone. The straps look like they are wide and cushiony. The colors are cute too! (teal and black) I'm excited!!
