baccalaureate equivalency table from CNO

Published

anyone who completed this table,,pls help me,,thank you

yes, i spoke with my assessor. she said she'll check my docs to and give me a call tom. I hope she will find it. but anyway, how long does it take to find out the result of the assessment? I apply for a RN though.

:tinkbll: it is very important that we always ask an update to the CNO to prevent this kind of thing. :)

How long does it take the CNO registration committee to make a decision?

:tinkbll: No one knows, after submitting your application kit in what ever category you applied, CNO will give you a 3months time frame for them to decide if they need an additional information from you or they will give an eligibility to take the national examination. In regards with the CNO, asking an additional information they will not give any time frame for the final evaluation of your credits. :)

PS. Read the whole BET forum, it will help you a lot. :)

I can say personally that it took my case 6 months to be assessed from first sending in the documents to getting the decision that I was eligible to sit the CRNE.

@Tinaling, sorry that you have been waiting so long for nothing!! At least you have found out now and can get it all moving and the assessment moving and hopefully it will be a positive decision.

Each case is individual and the length of time it takes to assess the application depends on the number of applicants and the other things that the CNO is doing at the time (eg, renewing existing registrations)

Hope this helps

After you are found CRNE eligble, does this mean that you have met all requirements except for passing the exam? After passing the exam are you able to register with CNO?

Yes, if you've been told you're eligible to write the CRNE then you've met all the requirements for registration EXCEPT passing the exam. Once you pass, you give them a bunch more money and you're registered.

to become registered as a nurse here in ontario as an internationally educated nurse, you have 7 requirments to finish (check this link http://www.cno.org/en/become-a-nurse/new-applicants/international/requirements-for-becoming-a-nurse-in-ontario/).

:tinkbll: CRNE is just one of the seven requirments needed for registration. Once you are eligible and passed the exam, you still need to present the other 6 requirments to the CNO. Goodluck :) all the best

Yes, on the list of requirements the CNO asked from me does not include #6.

You will not be given authorization to write the CRNE until all the other requirements have been met. It's the last step to registration. The requirement for proof of citizenship, permanent residency or refugee status is undergoing a revision to include temporary work permits. You will have to prove that you are legally able to work in Canada before they will complete your registration.

Hi al! Read on a discussion about "WES and CNO" thread that CNO uses WES as the Third party credential assessment. :D

"That once CNO receives all your transcripts in the a sealed envelope, the assessors will begin evaluating your credentials. If your program has not being evaluated before or is not very common, or even if they need verification of authenticity, they send your documents to WES. CNO will pay for this service (included in application fees). This will for sure lengthen the application process."

Applications are received by the customer service team of five people. The team documents receipt of the application and reviews it, with attached documentation, and processes the fee payment. Staff then create a physical file for the documents and send an acknowledgment to the applicant, along with a status report on what documents have been received to date and what documents are outstanding. Any documentation in a language other than English or French must be translated.

The file is then forwarded to the registration team, composed of seven registration assessors, three customer service associates, one coordinator, the Registration Committee administrator and one registration consultant. A registration assessor is assigned to the file and begins assessment of the educational program if information has been received. The assessment of other requirements such as practical experience and exams generally follows assessment of the education programs.

If the applicant’s educational program is unique (not previously assessed by CNO) and was completed outside Canada, CNO contacts World Education Services (WES). WES assesses the education level equivalency. CNO absorbs the cost of the WES assessment. CNO then carries out a paper-based content and competency assessment to determine if the nursing program is comparable to an Ontario nursing program.

If the assessor finds that the education requirement is met, the applicant is ready to apply for the exam. If the applicant does not meet the educational requirement based on the education program alone, the applicant is requested to provide any additional education and/or work experience information to CNO. If an applicant has additional education and/or work experience, the file is referred to a work group of expert nurses to review and make a recommendation on education equivalency. The file and the work group’s opinion are sent to the Registration Committee for a decision among these options:

  • register the applicant
  • register with terms, limitations or conditions imposed on the certificate
  • refuse the application
  • refer back to staff for further information.

Alternatively, if the applicant has no other education or experience, the file is referred to the Registration Committee for a decision. All files referred to the Registration Committee are reviewed for two factors: to see if the applicant’s basic program meets the education requirement, and if it does not, then to see if the applicant’s nursing experience and additional education along with the basic nursing program are equivalent to the education requirement.
