Baby during nursing school????

I started in an ADN program when my first child was 3 months old, and with a great daycare and a supportive husband and family, things actually went very well. I am now completing a BSN program, and my kids are 6 and 3-it is much harder this time around, even though 1 is in school, we have great daycare, and are financially much better off. If I could do this over, I would have been in school before my kids or when they were babies. I think that if you plan to have your baby in the spring and spend summer with the baby (if you're okay with leaving baby at 2-3 mo.), I think it may work out okay. If you wait, what are the benefits? You will be older and beginning a new career. I don't think having a baby will make school any easier (ha), but in my case, 1 baby at home while I was in school was no problem.

to my question. I am still undecided on what I should do. Waiting to have a baby at 39 when school is finished does not have any benfits, actually I think at that point I'm wondering if I will have changed my mind.

While completing LPN school last yr., we had 3 students who were pregnant during class. These moms all 3 delivered shortly after the completion of our programs though, which was only 11 months. I'm in a RN program now, and we had a student that delivered her baby, and came back to school after a couple of weeks. I agree with karin, you could have a child, and complete school, esp. if you had the summer off to spend with the baby. When I started my LPN program, like Karin, I also had a 3 month old daughter, and I was breastfeeding (continued throughout school, and weaned @ 18 months, so it can be done. Having support from family, friends, and your spouse is vital.

Having a child and parenting are beautiful, loving experiences filled with joy.

Did these ladies have other children? I will be 39 when I graduate LPN school which is a 14 month program. My husband and I would like to have another baby but I don't want to mess up my chance to finish school. We also have two other children under 5, but I want them to all be pretty close together. I plan on going on to finish as an RN after LPN school but will have a 10 month break because of the timing to try and get in. I hadn't ever had problems being pregnant with any of my children and they all were born a few days around their due date. Should I be worried? :rolleyes:

Would love to have just one more before I am 40.

I would think that nursing school and work would alone be plenty on a person's plate. Good luck anyway.

Hi, well my husband and I are in the same boat. We want another one, our first will be 4 next month. We though and thought and decided this: My adn program starts Aug 16, and goes straight through to May 2006. No Summer off, so I am going to try to get pregnant in September of next year and have that baby just after graduation. I hate to wait but I think it's best. But listen If you want to have a baby only you will know when is right. If you are a strong person you can do what ever you put your mind to. Its been done before by women with no supportive husband, no family members to help out, and little to no money to pave their way. Good luck in what ever you decide, and in nursing school.

We're only allowed to miss two days a semester in our LPN program. So if someone got pregnant I don't know how they could do it (physically have the baby) and remain in the program.
