Average hourly rate for NP?

I am wondering what others that work for hourly pay make? I realize different parts of the country and different settings will be different amounts, but just looking for input on hourly rates.

I always see average salary info for full time. which includes benefits.

I currently work part time for $40 an hour. I have been at this rate for the past 2 years. In the northeast.

and am wondering if I am underpaid, overpaid, or just right for my area :)

Lineartthinker - I live in the same state as you do (I think). In the central area, I started at approx $36 in 2006 and currently make approx $42. Thats base salary not including CME, mileage, my insurance which is 100% employer paid as well as 17% of my base salary given to me for my retirement fund.

Yes, of course it varies widely throughout the region. Our physicians here are making half of what their counterparts are making just 90 minutes in any direction. Living in the most beautiful place on earth comes at a price!

FTR, we don't get any CME or mileage, retirement is 3% of salary and insurance is 100%.

P.S. I do not live in Illinois.

Linearthinker and I must live in the same, beautiful place!

Yep I realized my mistake - there ain't no place in IL described as the "most beautiful place on earth" lol.

I disagree trauma...Chicago is indeed THE most beautiful place on Earth, if not the universe!

Chicago is a beautiful town...would love to spend some time there.

30/hour or about 45k/year with benefits. I am in a terribly depressed economic area. I actually think one might be doing well to get that pay here if they could find a position. I make more than that as a traveler. I hope to travel as a NP after I get some experience under my belt!

Chicago - ugh!!! You can keep your 6 lane highways, traffic that is slowed to a crawl 24/7, crime, etc....lol.

Now, come on to the middle of the state, the corn fields, energy farms, prairie land and there - that's beautiful!

lol

Okay back to the topic at hand - sorry for the derail.

Wow, I'm going to Houston when I ever get out. I live in GA, and our state hospitals range from 62/annual (with 15 years exp) to 95--for psych though. Don't know about private hospitals or FNP. Also see per diem prison jobs $40/hour.

about 49 - 50/hr North Dallas, Plano Texas....add CME reimbursment, vacation, no call....

wow... do PMHNPs really make up to 95/hr in your area? Maybe I will be able to pay back my loans...

No, FNP, about $49.00/hour.....I think with the multitude of disease processes/conditions mental health and otherwise/minor surgeries/procedures that we do, this is low. What we do is by no means easy, and the patients do not expect any less from us vs seeing an MD. You should expect more if you have experience (2+ years). We really should press this pay issue. I know many many people, some of them my patients who's jobs do not carry the huge responsibility ours carry (life, death, litigation, customer service) and make a lot more, double even. So I say this with total confidence, we are accepting underpayment, and its our fault. Quit or turn down the job offer and if the ask why, be respectfully honest.
