I am wondering what others that work for hourly pay make? I realize different parts of the country and different settings will be different amounts, but just looking for input on hourly rates.
I always see average salary info for full time. which includes benefits.
I currently work part time for $40 an hour. I have been at this rate for the past 2 years. In the northeast.
and am wondering if I am underpaid, overpaid, or just right for my area :)
Yes, of course it varies widely throughout the region. Our physicians here are making half of what their counterparts are making just 90 minutes in any direction. Living in the most beautiful place on earth comes at a price!
FTR, we don't get any CME or mileage, retirement is 3% of salary and insurance is 100%.
P.S. I do not live in Illinois.
No, FNP, about $49.00/hour.....I think with the multitude of disease processes/conditions mental health and otherwise/minor surgeries/procedures that we do, this is low. What we do is by no means easy, and the patients do not expect any less from us vs seeing an MD. You should expect more if you have experience (2+ years). We really should press this pay issue. I know many many people, some of them my patients who's jobs do not carry the huge responsibility ours carry (life, death, litigation, customer service) and make a lot more, double even. So I say this with total confidence, we are accepting underpayment, and its our fault. Quit or turn down the job offer and if the ask why, be respectfully honest.

Lineartthinker - I live in the same state as you do (I think). In the central area, I started at approx $36 in 2006 and currently make approx $42. Thats base salary not including CME, mileage, my insurance which is 100% employer paid as well as 17% of my base salary given to me for my retirement fund.
