Average hourly pay for per diem agency RN?

Specialties Agency

Published

Hi,

I jst recently became a per diem agency RN in LA. I have a BSN, work tele/ms, and have two years experience in a acute care teaching hospital. I know we really don't discuss numbers here, but I can't help feeling like I'm being ripped off. I won't mention the agency I'm with but I will say that I am making $36/hour + time and a half for every 4 hours I work over 8 hours during a 12 hour shift. I typically work 3-12's/wk. I don't have benefits or any other incentives. I love working for my agency, but feel that I should be making a bit more. It would be great if you guys could disclose some known rates/hr!

Thanks,

Victoria

Hello! Could you tell me in your opinion, how much do you think it should be the rate for LA per diem rate?

Thank you.

For specialty areas such as ICU and ER is 44 to 45/hr + 1.5 after 8 hrs.

Here in Northeast PA I work 48 hours a week with 12 hours of overtime at time and a half. My rate is $45/hr and $67.50. I pay for my benefits through the company. I get 40 hours of vacation paid and a $500 bonus every 13 weeks. Let me know if there is anything else I can let you know. I have heard of higher rates but not with guaranteed contracts.

Hi there, i am in phila and was looking for supplemental job. Are these rates for travel assignment or per diem? Which company do you work with? Thanks.

Are you a traveler?

No. That is too much. Unless you are a nurse practitioner or nurse anesthetist.

I would not discount this rates, although they are not reg. rates. Takes into consideration that hospitals could have some bonuses for a certain period, then factor in weekend rates. I have seen such figures when we had nursing shortage. Its still cheaper for the hospital. Suen

No. Just wanted per diem. Suem

I am from the Phila area. I'm not happy (I can't stand)with my agency- favorite nurses. i've been with them since april 2009. the only place they want to send me to is LTC and for $40/hour and can barely get any shifts out of them. In May I got 1 8hour shift. I'm feed this bs line- WE have lots of Needs" here it is the middle of July and still only 1 8hour shift. I really wanted to stay agency but I can't afford this crap. I am forced to take a parttime position in a couple of weeks just to pay bills. I think these agencies just jerl us around- I applied and sent all my paperwork in to MSN- and nothing(Jennifer Ross- she can take a flying leap)I sent all my paperwork in to Medstaff(I used to do travel and perdeim with that group - my references were not high enough in nursing mamagement- well I was going to ask OBAMA but he was in Russia at the time) I'm going to try white glove and see what they have to smear around. Any one know any good agencies in or around NJ PLEASE let me know?

DO you think the pay increase for agency nurses is worth the traveling?

Let me make this perfectly clear. California nurses make more money an hour than any other place on earth, period. I would say the average full time day position pays $50 hr. Per Diem makes about $63. You get the differential for after 8 hours and nite shift. Travel nursing is for those nurses that don't make anything close to that and are looking for something different. Regardless of the numbers, Travel nurses are getting housing + 35-45/hr. The major difference is what tax bracket you want to be in. The lower the pay, the better you are, believe me.

What about with the cost of living in Cali? I assume it all evens out with other states.

Not even close. once you pay the living expenses, you really have it made. The kicker is the OT. That is where you rack up. If you are with a travel company.... that is where you lose. Travel companies want 36-48 hrs only. If they were on your side, they would give you close to either the normal OT rate of the Hospital employee or the contract rate not their reduced rate that they give you.

I am in Tampa, fla and I work with 2 different agencies. One agency for night shift will give you $50/hr but it is in an area very far from me, and they do not take out taxes. Which I don't like because you pay for that at the end. And their dayshift rate is $45/hr.

The other one I deal with pays $35/hr day shifts and $37 night shift. Weekend night shift is $40/hr weekend day shift s is $38/hr. So you can make pretty good money. And they do not provide benefits.

Specializes in Med-surgical; telemetry; STROKE.

Maxim agency, San Mateo: M/S --38/hr, no differential for night shift. Some benefits >32/week.
