Australia to USA

I am an Australian RN and want to work in USA. Sadly my qualifications do not include 2 courses required by NY State, ie Pediatrics and Obstetrics/Midwifery. Since I can't find any place here in Australia to do these (40 hours theory and 40 hours clinical each), I am now thinking about moving to USA, and while working (perhaps as an LPN?) I could do the required courses there. Can anyone tell me if this is practicable/possible? are there any colleges/universities (preferably in upstate New York) where I could do them?? I would be extremely grateful for any advice/information/suggestions. Visa is not a problem, I already have one.

hey there,

i just thought i'd say hello, i'm a new australian grad whose husband is american...looks like i have to complete all these extra requirements also. Not happy Jan! Although we did cover those subjects in my nursing course...Just thought i'd say hello...it's nice to know there's other aussie's out there going through the same nightmare process of registration in the usa.

Would love to hear your experience if any of you are completing the extra courses (mid/obst etc) through deakin!

thanks :)

Seems like kinda easy if you're in Australia and U.K.

Hot topic of the day: Hospitals in U.S are actually recruting..

depends on what you define as easy? lol :)

I guess the only thing that we dont have to worry about is the English Language requirement. That's one step easier I guess...

Oh the silly rules they make everyone jump through to get here. :(

I think they should allow citizen swaps. Let me have your Australian Citizenship and I'll move there and you can have my American Citizenship and move here!!! :D

I'm gonna have to write my senator!

great idea re exchanging citizenships - if only!!!......

lol i like your thinking! :)

No way would I give up my Aussie citizenship!! That's my home!

Luckily they changed the rules in 2002 so you can have dual citizenship.

with you on that one... no way i'd give up my aussie citizenship for the US either.
