  1. Hi melUK2000, I would suggest that the reason Australian nurses want to work overseas is not because of dissatisfaction with the way they are treated or regarded here in Australia but simply because they want to experience life and work in another country. That's certainly my reason!!
  2. Thank you ghillbert, you're right I'm not working in USA yet and also have not yet done NCLEX so I was unable to help QLDRN - great that you could.
  3. many thanks ehic2604 - i'm currently doing the courses as distance student with deakin university but like you am having trouble finding clinical placements - no success so far!!
  4. Many thanks Sonja123, sorry to be a bore but......could you please clarify....SC??...and also GA??
  5. Gee I wish I'd heard about this option when I posted my first enquiry last year about ways to make up these missing courses for Australian RN. Anyway....I want to live and work in upstate New York - does anyone have specific info on SoN's in that area where I could do courses in Pediatrics and Obstetrics (both theory and clinical)?? whole term is fine, i would not expect to do it in just a couple of weeks.
  6. many thanks, can you tell me please the University/SON you attended?
  7. Are there any Australian RNs reading this who have made up their missing PAEDIATRIC and OBSTETRICS courses required for licensure in USA by doing them at a Community College or University in USA?? I would VERY much like to hear from you, especially re details on where you did this, how long it took, how much it cost ...... will be extremely grateful for any advice/info/help/suggestions.
  8. Thanks for replies - I'm really surprised to hear about this 'Community College' option as I understood from earlier posts/responses that the only way I could make up these subjects (Paediatrics and Obstetrics) was by doing the courses here (in Australia) at Deakin University. And I'd VERY VERY much like to hear from any Australian RNs who have upgraded their RN qualifications to meet USA requirements by doing these courses in USA at a Community College, or indeed a School of Nursing.
  9. I'm now really confused - Suzanne's response was about doing it at a 'Community College'. However Silverdragon suggests contacting 'a school of nursing' - but it seems to me over here in Australia that a 'Community College' is a quite different place from a 'school of nursing'??? aaaggghhh......
  10. Last week I noticed a reply from Suzanne (20 August 2008) to a post from an Australian RN asking how she could meet USA Obstetrics requirements. Unfortunately I did not record details of, and can no longer find, this post. However I did write a copy of Suzanne's response, viz that she could 'easily do the training for about 6 weeks in a community college in USA'. I would love to hear more about this option, specifically for Obstetrics and Pediatrics. Any help/advice/suggestions would be very much appreciated.
  11. Hi Suzanne, Have just noticed your response (20 August 2008) to another Australian RN re way to meet Obstetrics requirements - you told her she could 'easily do the training for about 6 weeks in a community college in USA'. Could you please tell me more about this option, specifically for Obstetric and Pediatric Nursing.
  12. many thanks ghillbert, have googled monash medical centre but can't find specific info i need..... can you suggest/recommend a person and/or department/address i should contact to try and arrange my clinical placements??
  13. Many thanks ghillbert - sorry to be a bore but I have another question re number of hours for each clinical - the information I have says I need 40-80 hours (for each) - what would you recommend/suggest? ie is 40 enough or should I do the 80??
  14. Hi ghillbert I am currently trying to organise my clinicals for Pediatrics and Maternity - can you please tell me where you did yours?
  15. Hi Suzanne Many thanks for all your help. Now I'm wondering whether I need to do the Visa Screen via CGFNS as I already have F11 (ie I'm a 'Family Sponsored Immigrant').
