Austin Community College ADN Spring 2021

Published

Hello friends,

I know it's extremely early for this, but I wanted to create a forum for the Spring 2021 applicants for ACC! We can keep in touch here if anyone has questions about the application process or just the program in general. Happy applying y'all! I'm excited to start my future career as a nurse!

@mariah0418 hey Mariah!

I had a recruiter when I got my job but the recruiter was the one who contacted me after I applied to a PCT position. I didn’t go out and find one. There may be a way to do that but I don’t know the exact route you’d take. They had contacted me after I submitted my application (for my instance this recruiter worked for seton) so I was able to work with her on other applications and recommendations.

hope this helps

Hey everyone!

I'm applying to the ADN program for Fall 2021. Does anyone have any tips about the application process? Thanks!

Hi @kebrn Be sure you have all immunization done before applying, some shots take time. Good luck!

One of the best advice that anyone here can give you. I would also recommend having your blood titers done (if it's covered by your insurance) if you don't have any access to your immunization records. The titers test showed that I still had all of immunizations and all I had to do was get the form signed by a PCP.

Don't delay this though -- as some immunization shots/boosters can take you months to complete. I had a friend just barely miss the application date since she waited a little bit too long to get her immunizations done.

Hello everyone!

This might be a bit early to start thinking about it, but I was wondering if anyone knows if we need the required materials for the first day of nursing skills, or if they'll give us time after the first day of class to order our materials. I'm really nervous for nursing skills since I've never had previous experience in the healthcare field as some of the others have (I'm a 2019 high school graduate), so I don't know what to expect at all.

Specializes in nurse.

Hi ,

in terms of the book, it's good to have the fundamental book in hand to do readings because it will go super fast. and on being the first timer in health care, don't worry about it, I was the newbie to the health care field as well. and study well

take care ? hope this helped you.

As an LVN, I would say just apply for everything and if you get into both, choose RN. I'm going back for RN for a reason, but being an LVN has been an awesome experience so far, and is a good backup if I ever need a job. And now with this whole "healthcare heroes" thing, everyone and their mother wants to be a nurse even more than before so there will be a lot of competition. You don't need any pre-reqs for the LVN program, so it's quicker to get in. BUT, if you can, do RN. And even better, do BSN if you have the means and the time. I wish I could have just gone straight to BSN b/c that's what the hospitals want now. But, you can only do what you can when you can in life ?

How competitive is it to get into the LVN program at ACC?

Hi everyone! I have no idea what scrub should be for the nursing skills class. Should it be a specific color, so I will be able to use it once get into the program, also where it is the best to purchase it, can you please share it with me?

Just read the syllabus for this class. It seems like you don't have to wear any specific color of scrubs (it doesn't have to be teal). I was going to buy my scrubs through Figs.

Responding to the two people above :)

yes , it doesn’t matter what color scrubs you have on but if you are going to be going through ACC program you might as well buy scrubs once. When I took the class almost everyone had on teal :)

And FIGS are literally the best scrubs ever- I even use them at my job

Sure, I have two lab packs (one more used than the other) and will gladly give them away and get my closet space back. LVN is 12 months long without any semester break. I did mine from January-December and graduated December 2019. I took NCLEX in late January. I took all of my RN pre-reqs before applying to LVN, but wanted to get into the field ASAP, as I am a mom in my early 30's and felt like wasting no time. Now that I know nursing is for me, I'm going back to get my RN as soon as humanly possible bc RN's do have more opportunity in terms of specialty. I worked in the emergency room for a couple years before nursing school and really want to go back to my old dept as an RN. SO I planned on applying to the Spring 2021 traditional track, but the schedule will be too busy for me while working with my two kids and I don't want to deal with the competition after seeing how many re-applicants there are. So I'm settling on waiting and doing the Fall 2021 mobility track.

Hey, do you still have any extra Lab pack left?

Hey y'all!

I'm super excited and nervous to start the nursing skills course!

Would you guys recommend buying or renting the Fundamentals of Nursing textbook? I'm not sure if we'll be using this book only for the nursing skills course or if it'll be used throughout the nursing program. ? I would definitely love to save some money, but will totally buy it if it's used throughout the nursing program!

I would buy the book. I finished nursing skills over the Summer and we were told we would need the Fundamentals nursing textbook for the rest of the Nursing classes.
