Austin Community College - ACC - Spring '11 hopefuls

Published

Hi ya'll-

Thought I'd get this started for the rest of us who, sadly, did not make it in for Fall 2010. I'm hoping to re-submit my application for Spring today (or this week). Does anyone know, do we receive the form from the nursing office? Or, is this something we should grab from the website?

My score upon re-applying will be 54.899. Dang, sure am hoping this will be high enough and get me in this round!

How's everyone else holding up? Did everyone complete the pre-req - 1105 already? I have not and won't (due to extenuating circumstances) until early Fall. Will this negatively impact my chances of getting accepted? According to Tammy and the office, no. But, wanting to get everyone's input. Hoping we will hear about acceptance by Sept. Does anyone know this date for sure? The application period closed July 15, don't know why it takes them so long to get this word out.

Anyway- good luck to you. This is my 3rd round of applying :( so I sure am ready to get in and get on with this career change!

Congrats on your job, scacc! I hope I can find something at a hospital soon.

Radiation, I went to the Ben White location of Total Uniforms and got my scrubs and lab coat. I bought them on a Saturday and by Monday, they had my patches sewn on. The girl there told me we get an ACC discount on our accessories, too...so I think I am going to go back to get my stethoscope there as well.

I'm going scrub-shopping with my [RN] mom on Thursday :D But I'm hoping I can get the scrubs from another store and then go to T U for my patches. I also need scrubs for St.Davids, where I just got a job:yeah:

What kind of job did you get?

Yeah they told me we got a discount. They had the ACC approved white shoes. So I will probably go back and get the white K-swiss shoes they had for only $50.

What kind of job did you get?

PCT(Patient Care Technician) I. Full time nights, which I'm a little scared of since my old work schedule was 7am-2pm, so I go to bed EARLY!

Thats great!!:yeah: I loved night shift when I worked it. You get paid so much more. What kind of floor are you on?

Med/surg. I'm really nervous since I have NO experience, but I'll have 2-4 weeks of rounds with someone before I'm on my own.

AWESOME!! You will learn so much before school starts!! I work PRN as a CAII (Clinical Assistant) at Seton on the oncology floor. Does St. David's have a dress color code like Seton does? All RN's at Seton have to wear navy blue and all CA's have to wear maroon.

I met a girl on these boards over a year ago and we did the ACC CNA program together. We quickly clicked and became great friends. She had NO previous medical experience and got in over at St. Davids after a quick stint at a rehab facility. The experience she gained there was great. She is now in level 1 hybrid and she told me that she has such a head start as far as clinicals go.

When do you start?

I have my appointment with HR to do paperwork, tests, etc. today! I'm glad I finally got a job where I won't feel like it's wasted time while I'm working, because I have to work. Not only for $, but I manage my time so much better with school if I'm working, since there isn't always tomorrow to do it! I also accepted a PRN position at an AIDS non-profit hospice, but will probably give that up in January. But I think the two will be sooo different and educating.

Texasceleste...don't give up hope! Just keep applying and eventually SOMEONE will give you an interview...

And Radiation - I think we had skills together with Jeanie Ward hybrid in the Spring! I remember the two CNAs who were already comfortable doing everything :)

Is the online orientation only for those in the hybrid section?

I think so because there were study tips, etc for the online program.

Oops-forgot you asked about uniforms. Yes, they have a new uniform policy and RNs wear navy and PCTs wear sandstone tops and black bottoms. Not my first choice, but I'd wear a potato sack if they wanted me to :lol2:
