Here we go, new thread for the people who weren't able to get in the Spring 2014.
Seems like every semester the number of people admitted to the course is dropping.
2013 Spring - Admitted 127
2013 Fall - Admitted 117
2014 Spring - Admitted 111
Couple of years ago they were admitting 160 students a semester, so this is a disturbing trend for us who are waiting to get in to the course.
Raemon1,
Are you talking to me? I am a guy btw. I don't know how comfortable you are living with a guy. My email is [email protected] if you are still interested.
I have found my Taylor (nursing skills--needed for RNSG 1105 and Levels 1 and 2) and Lewis (med-surg--needed for Levels 1 and 2) textbooks at Half Price Books for something like $10 and $8, respectively. Both have been in perfect condition. They are prior editions--one edition behind what's currently used--but I have encountered NO problems.
The only catch is that page numbers on reading assignments, tables, etc. correspond to the current/recommended editions. It takes a little extra sleuthing to figure out what to read (do NOT trouble yourself with reading extra; this will not help you in nursing classes!) but it's worth the $$ savings in my opinion!
Hope that helps!
I took RNSG 1105 last May and Prep U (I don't even know what that is!) was not on our list. We were required to have the Taylor book and corresponding skills DVDs.
The Taylor DVD set is something you'll use in 1105 and during Levels 1 and 2. The acting is kind of cheesy--not going to lie!--but the content of the DVDs is extremely helpful (and may in fact be required viewing) in your nursing classes. I highly recommend either purchasing them or at least renting them until you gauge how useful they will be for you.
I found my Taylor DVDs used on Amazon. I have gotten a lot of use out of them so far; definitely worth the money. In fact, I watched the module on tracheostomy care this afternoon in preparation for my Level 2 summer class that starts next Tuesday. The Taylor DVD content is required viewing because this instructor does not provide a lecture before skills lab (which is something we got before skills lab all through Level 1).
My point is that you need to purchase all required materials. But it's possible to do this without breaking the bank. Half Price Books and Amazon/Amazon Marketplace have provided everything I've needed for nursing school so far.
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
