Austin Community College (ACC) Admissions Fall 2014

Published

Here we go, new thread for the people who weren't able to get in the Spring 2014.

Seems like every semester the number of people admitted to the course is dropping.

2013 Spring - Admitted 127

2013 Fall - Admitted 117

2014 Spring - Admitted 111

Couple of years ago they were admitting 160 students a semester, so this is a disturbing trend for us who are waiting to get in to the course.

Anyone else get their blue card yet? I did my prints 3 weeks ago. Just curious what the average wait for that has been.

I did my prints about 2.5 weeks ago and have not received my blue card yet. Also, I have not received an acceptance letter yet.

I got my blue card within a week and a half of doing my prints. But I did it the day after receiving instructions so maybe I just went before the wave started. Also, to x41133127x, the points calculation email said that acceptance letters will not be sent out until the beginning of June so don't worry (:

Hi everyone!

I just completed Level 1 at CEC and I want to wish everyone good luck in the admissions process!

You will be notified about everything nursing program-related--including admission--via ACC email, not postal mail. Check it regularly--this is how you learn about nursing requirements, deadlines, changes, etc. before and during the program.

Anyway, let me know if you have questions and I'll do my best to answer them. I have LOVED my experience at ACC. I had no idea I could learn so much about a totally new profession in just one semester (obviously with a long way to go :).

Just going to put this advertisement out there....I'm looking for a room mate. If anyone is interested, just message me or email me and we can figure out something.

Also, I called the TBON and they said they were running behind on blue cards. Mine, which was taken about 3 weeks ago, should be arriving this thursday/friday according to them.

Thanks so much for letting is know about the blue cards. I have been checking my mail everyday. I did my prints April 22 so hopefully it's here soon.

Thanks Jena5111! Can you give me an idea of what your schedule was like at CEC for Level 1? Days/times you had class/labs/clinicals? Appreciate your insight!

**Keep in mind that schedules change every semester, so your CEC days/times could be totally different than mine**

With that said, I had lecture every Monday and Wednesday starting any time between 7:30a and 9:30a (depending on lecture topics and whether or not we also had an exam that day) and lasted until any time between 11:30a and 2:00p. Lab was on Tuesdays and I was in the PM lab group from 10:00a-2:00p--start and end times could vary depending on the topics. I had clinicals Thursdays and Fridays from 6:30a until 1:30p.

Other clinical groups went on Wednesdays 12:30p-6:30p and Thursdays 6:30a-1:30p (or something like that). But then they had Fridays off. My point is that you should plan to be completely available on clinical days and ready to go wherever you're assigned. It's really important to have flexibility in your personal schedule so you can accommodate the slight time changes throughout the semester.

The schedule lightened up considerably during the second 8 weeks of the semester--we had a couple of random Mondays or Tuesdays off, and clinicals end 2 or 3 weeks before the final (however, this won't apply if your group has to use make-up clinical days due to instructor illness or other circumstances).

Hope that helps!

Hello,

I am also a nursing major at ACC. I am also looking for a roommate. My lease ends July 31st. How do I get in touch with you? Also, how do you feel about cats? I have two sweet cats.

Hi Jena, I saw that we have a dosage exam pretty soon after level one begins. Just curious if we are allowed to have a conversion sheet for that or if it's like pharmacology where we do it all from memory. I am going to be brushing up on those this summer. It's been quite a while since I took pharmacology. Thanks for all if your advice! Congrats on completing level one :)

My best advice for the dosage calc exam (which happens during the first week of the semester) is to PRACTICE using a dosage calc workbook--especially if you took pharm through ACC. The workbook provided with that course contains everything you need to practice and ace your exam the first time.

You won't get a conversion sheet, so memorize them! Flashcards worked for me. I got 100% on the test the first time because I had made a point of working on it. Also, it had been a little while since I'd taken pharm; I needed to do a little preparation!

All in all, the exam is NOT that hard and it's not meant to trick you. Take your time, double-check your work, and don't rely on mental math. Use scratch paper! And pay attention to whatever rounding rules are stipulated at the beginning of the test--the instructor wrote them on the white board for us before we started.

Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great!
