Austin Community College (ACC) Admissions Fall 2014

Published

Here we go, new thread for the people who weren't able to get in the Spring 2014.

Seems like every semester the number of people admitted to the course is dropping.

2013 Spring - Admitted 127

2013 Fall - Admitted 117

2014 Spring - Admitted 111

Couple of years ago they were admitting 160 students a semester, so this is a disturbing trend for us who are waiting to get in to the course.

Thanks so much Jaimib19! I appreciate it!

I'm just curious what Nursing Skills 1105 will be like. Anyone care to share their experience? It would be really helpful.

Hello all!

I took RNSG 1105 last semester. It was a lot of fun. I took the 8 week course so it was a lot of information in a short period of time but if you stick with it you will do fine. Yes you need scrubs! Also, yes you will need the book, DVD, and prepU. Honestly prepU is more for your sake. Your instructors will post quizzes on there that are very very similar to the theory exams.

As far as my experience in the class. It moves very quickly if you take the 8 week session so be prepared. We had lecture first where we discussed the lecture topics for the day and then we went to the skills lab where we were shown a demonstration and able to practice our skills with our partners. Get to know your partner so that you feel comfortable with them during the skills check-offs because they can be pretty nerve racking. It definitely helps if you have gotten to know your partner and practices with them a lot. In my opinion, the theory exams were very easy. They are taken in the nursing computer lab on the computer and mostly multiple choice. I think there are a few questions in the whole class that are not multiple choice and they are for calculating I&O. The skills check off is where your teacher watches you interact with your "patient" (partner) and perform the required skills for the scenario that you have been given. In my opinion this required the most studying. You need to know what to do based on why your patient is there and what has already been done. For the first 2 or 3 they have what you need to do listed and you just put them in order but for the last 2 you must write the steps in on your own.

Overall, it was a very helpful course. I learned so much in a short period of time. As far as books go, you will be referring back to these books throughout your program so I would recommend getting one that's in good condition so that you can write in it if you want and it will last you the next few years.

It's a very fun and rewarding class. I had professor Darby and professor McKinney. They were both excellent. Congrats to those who got in the class for summer! Have fun!

Were you in the first 8 week course (January-March)? I was in that class too. I'm so ready for June to get here! :)

I'm ready for this waiting to end!!

Same here! I am going crazy!!! I check my ACC gmail a million times a day.

I got an email about the TBON background check a few weeks ago and it said that she was forwarding my name to them and I should wait for further instruction. I haven't received any other information regarding the background check since then. Should I be expecting something in the mail or via email? Any comments would be really appreciated.

I received the same email. Still waiting..

How many points did you have star1114? I'm just trying to get an idea of the point cutoff for admission this fall.

If you are an LVN or EMT already then you don't have to do anything else as your prints are already in the system.

I would definitely email Tammy and ask her about it. I received my instructions long ago.
