Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

Well to add my two cents to the whole gpa student thing, I agree but only to an extent. First i know what you mean about some students who only want the money but I know some who cheated on every test while in pre-reqs and think to myself "what are they thinking is gonna happen when they're in actual nursing school, cause that crap wont get them far at all". HOWEVER there are students who have gotten into this very program with a 2.5 gpa who have gone on to be the best nurses on their floors. I know them personally so to generalize everyone with those credentials as potentially being unfit and complaining is a wrong assumption. I also knew a girl who got straight A's from hard work, got into the program and couldnt handle it. Its about how bad you want it, what you want it for and how willing you are to learn. Some professors SUCK so bad (I recently had one) that your lucky to skate out with a C. I had a teacher who only graded you for the entire course by the tests you took, and she required you to do a million and one unnecessary steps to get answers. If you didn't remember every single one, and NO ONE DID, you got points off, so earning our grade was more about averaging how many questions you did based on what she potentially could take points off of, and NOT that you actually knew how to do the problem and get the right answers.

I do also agree that not EVERYONE should be accepted for money, but that is why they have minimum requirements, if those are met, it says you have every right to be there as much as anyone else and I wouldn't take that away from someone simply because I got all A's and a better gpa. Those who don't care or cant cut it will simply fall by the wayside, but those of us who do get in and bust our a**es should try to help and support one another as much as possible. We ALL will need it.

In my opinion to say that anyone who meets a minimum requirement should all be admitted into a program is kind of offensive to people who value and see nursing as a prestige profession. It in a way devalues the education involved in becoming a nurse. Honestly if I only was reaching for the bare minimum to get in. . . I actually wouldn't have cared about my attendance in classes, I wouldn't have wasted any countless night pulling all nighter studying. . And I wouldn't have wasted my time with the tutors. . . Do you believe that everyone who meets the minimum should all be accepted into medical school and law school as well? Lets say a school only gets funding for 100 nursing student a semester . . Should they only accept the first 100 applicants who at least meets the minimum requirements just because everyone who met the minimum requirements deserve a spot? Or Realistically should they only be accepting 100 students who have the highest credentials? Not trying to argue with you but I love trying to understand a person's thoughts.

Came to the school to pay to retake the hesi anatomy and they're closed I made sure to check online to see if they were open today and there was nothing stating they were going to be closed I'm so mad right now!! Now I have to wait even longer to turn in my hesi scores this really sucks :( wish we could pay online! Now I have to take a day off from work to take my test because I don't want to wait until next weekend to take it, I really need to get these scores in ughh I just want to scream right now

I find Nursing to be as prestigious a career as the ones you mentioned above and maybe you feel like you wouldn't care about classes and you wouldn't pull all nighters or tutors if you had a lower gpa. What you would do and feel is not what everyone else would do or feel. And it should not be offensive to anyone if someone got into this program with a lower gpa, everyone deserves their shot and the decision is up to people who have been making these decisions for years. I trust their judgement. As I also said their are nurses who were B and C students who ROCK and when it comes to saving my life if need be, im not going to ask what their gpa in school was.

I don't generalize people and lump them in a category, it's not a fair assumption. And yes I do believe that if you meet the minimum requirements you should be as allowed as anyone else, i made that very clear in my earlier post. There are minimum requirements for a reason.

I created this thread to encourage and empower everyone no matter their gpa. Im not for spreading negativity or biased opinions on people no matter what the subject, and I know your'e not starting an arguement but I feel passionately about equal opportunity for all. We live in a tough state and have the odds stacked against us in alot of ways already. Lets all just keep an eye on our grades and support one another so we all can rise to the occasion and ROCK this program. I want that for you, me and everyone in between. 2.0 or 4.0

Go to broward.edu and once you've logged in go to "limited access application" there you will see your points, and status will be in upper right hand of page.

I have no status. I checked limited access application and status. How did you find the status? They posted the $20 for the application under receipts, but no application status??

They only consider AP 1 and 2 with labs and enc1101. That B and C may have been the reason for the 8 points.

QUOTE=Olkan';7932245]If you ask me, the points system sucks big time.. A&P 1 (A in lecture, A in lab); A&P 2 (B in lecture, C in lab); Microbiology (B in lecture, A in lab); ENC1102 (B); Statistics (A)... Yet, 8 points granted out of a possible 16.. It's like getting 50% on a test, which is an 'F.'

I think we should start hearing decions by this week or next week ;-) good luck to us all!!!

hey guys where are you?

Lol...ikr, seems like the thread is dying faster than I anticipated.

As soon as decisions start coming out, it will come alive again LOL

I thought we will still use this thread when we got admitted in order to share notes, ideas and encourage each other...or after we got in, we can create a facebook page for august 2014/2015 where we can do all of that. what do u guys think?

They monitor these websites and Facebook pages.. i heard of someone who got kicked out of the program for saying negative comments about the program on fb ..
