Hi everyone,

I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?

How many people are going to Central. I would like for us to start a study group once were in. Serious people with very little distractions and dedicated to study group time would be great

Well thats great news point system wise lol. And i know they are dead serious about being late. I guess everyone should make sure their transportation is in tip top shape before this thing kicks off.

Yeah I totally agree I had to do it too. Make sure my car is paid off. New tires oil changes and all lol. It just sucks when they accept everyone and you worked so hard. I overheard people boasting about getting a 76 on a hesi and a GPA of 2.5. They are the same ones that fail out and then claim the program is so hard and unfair. It's so discouraging!

Yes! Don't be late to the pre-admissions meeting if you are invited... They will make sure to point out tardiness will NOT Be tolerated...

You can't miss even one day in clinicals. You can't walk in a minute late. You miss you're out and have to retrack. So get a good alarm clock. Just work hard and show up on time. Classes are great.. The program is hard but very good.

I'll be going to central. That sounds like a great idea!

A handful of people who participates within this forum I bet would challenge you on that statement. . But I strongly feel the same way you do, and couldn't agree with you more!! While finishing my pre reqs and esp the hcp0001 class I seriously thought to myself *** was some of these students (half the class) were doing and how the hell did they get this far cause. I knew I sure as hell would love to die instantly than slowly die while under their care. But oh well Broward College is running a business and from a business standpoint it makes sense to accept everyone, get their money and watch them expect to be hand fed answers only to realize that doesn't happen resulting in them failing. . Having them start over again bringing more money to the college until they realize 1. They better get their act together or 2. They realize they are not fit for the profession. But for anyone attending the central campus and will end up learning in the new health science building. . I believe the process of accepting everyone (pass or fail) financed the process of upbringing the new building. And with that new building it will only attract more applicants which means more students to accept (pass or fail) which means more money to the college. . It is Beautiful how shady but effective businesses operate. Just my two cents ;)

We must of been in the same HCP class hahaha!! You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. And I don't mean to offend anyone. It almost seems like they're doing it for the money and not for the passion and this world has enough of those. Nursing isn't for everyone!

Broward sucks in many ways, that's why I have to agree with you guys. Let's take a look at the point gpa to get into the program. You know how you wanna learn so bad and you strive so much for that while taking a prof who's not easy but teach u the material and somebody else stays behing claiming they're having an A while they do even know the 14 facial bones..my a&p2 prof once told me..It's so bad that there are some profs who are giving away free A's in science to students who don't even know anything, once they'll get accepted, those students will be the ones failing by the first try...not always true though but that's what he realized.

I've been thinking that admission is based on students with the highest hesi scores. GPA is only use as a tiebreaker. I was thinking that might be the reason why they stop giving the 'one point' to Florida residents.. Oh well, I might be wrong, but that's what I was able to concluded base on their 'Admission Selection Criteria.'

- 'The first selection of applicants will begin with the highest hesi scores in the pool along with other selection criteria....'

Well to add my two cents to the whole gpa student thing, I agree but only to an extent. First i know what you mean about some students who only want the money but I know some who cheated on every test while in pre-reqs and think to myself "what are they thinking is gonna happen when they're in actual nursing school, cause that crap wont get them far at all". HOWEVER there are students who have gotten into this very program with a 2.5 gpa who have gone on to be the best nurses on their floors. I know them personally so to generalize everyone with those credentials as potentially being unfit and complaining is a wrong assumption. I also knew a girl who got straight A's from hard work, got into the program and couldnt handle it. Its about how bad you want it, what you want it for and how willing you are to learn. Some professors SUCK so bad (I recently had one) that your lucky to skate out with a C. I had a teacher who only graded you for the entire course by the tests you took, and she required you to do a million and one unnecessary steps to get answers. If you didn't remember every single one, and NO ONE DID, you got points off, so earning our grade was more about averaging how many questions you did based on what she potentially could take points off of, and NOT that you actually knew how to do the problem and get the right answers.

I do also agree that not EVERYONE should be accepted for money, but that is why they have minimum requirements, if those are met, it says you have every right to be there as much as anyone else and I wouldn't take that away from someone simply because I got all A's and a better gpa. Those who don't care or cant cut it will simply fall by the wayside, but those of us who do get in and bust our a**es should try to help and support one another as much as possible. We ALL will need it.

I'm not attending Central but I would love to form a study group with anyone that'll be attending North campus!! This would be great to help eachother out on this journey :)

I really hope after we get into the program this thread doesn't become vacant like all others (I didn't expect the May thread to end so soon). I would love to hear how everyone at the other campuses are doing, so don't become strangers ;)

Retaking the hesi Anatomy section tomorrow. Crossing my fingers that I pass this time around!!
