Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker on allnurses for years, and finally am finishing up school to move forward for my Associates at Broward. Unfortunately, they have totally thrown a monkey wrench in the pre-req requirements, and now I'm going to have to wait until Jan 2015 possibly to get into that program!!!!! I have all pre res done except for the new math, CHM and new Micro pre-req. This is devastating. I'm wondering though, is it possible to take the Micro and Lab in the summer and somehow slip in for the August 2014 program, or am i bananas?
I am deferring my seat. I only have $600 for one semester. My schedule adds up to $1500. I heard books and supplies would be at $1500 plus my own needs. Yes I do work a part-time job, but how much could a teenager possible make from a part-time job? The road ends here for me. Good luck guys.[/quote']Im sorry to hear that. I didnt know you were a teen. Perhaps its like that because of your parents income. Id go to studentloans.gov and apply right away.

It's $1200 half for fall and the other half for the winter. I just called and they told me that's all I am qualified for. I will have to pay out of pocket for next summer.[/quote']That sucks. I'd def try for the loan cause it should be enough to cover u for fall and winter.

Just came to Central to pick up my orientation packet for Thursday, July 17th. I saw a nursing student walking and decided to ask some questions. I asked her bout the uniform policy since she was in polos and black jeans. She said scrubs are only needed for labs. For theory you can wear polos with jeans. She also told me its very tough. Exams are usually 12-15 chapters and c linicals is where many people fail. The clinical professors are tough and you need to know your stuff well. She saw my kids and told me are they yours....she then chuckled and said you better be ready to have no time for them.
She told me the first couple weeks I will be doubting my decision to do nursing here but good luck. I smiled and was cordial but its people like that that really scares us about this program.
Oh Mi!!! I'll go for a loan If I were you. Talk to them about the emergency funds they have available for us, wait until I'm done with the first semester and apply for one of the hospital sponsorship. I'll try to get the books as I'm going on, so for the first semester I'll get the fundamentals, cox, jarvis and tabers and make copy of the pages in the books that I don't have yet. Try, please.

When there is a will, there is a way. It's not a walk in the park sure, these are peoples LIVES so yes it's hard. But do NOT let anyone discourage or scare you. You worked hard to get here and you'll work hard to stay. And I've never heard of a twelve chapter test, five or six yeah but 12? She's trying to scare you. Just pray and know in your heart, in all our hearts that we can handle this.
