August BOLC

Hey everyone, I figured since there is a thread for the July BOLC I thought I should start one for those attending the August BOLC. I was originally on the OML but was given the option of going active and attending the OR track. I happily accepted the opportunity!!! I received confirmation that I would be attending the Aug BOLC course then heading straight to WBAMC for the 4 month OR training course. My final duty station is still in the works... I just know it will either be Walter Reed or WBAMC (my fingers are crossed for Walter Reed).

Looking forward to meeting everyone and starting my Army Career as a nurse!!:D

I have not received orders yet either, so still waiting anxiously. I have given my job notice on good faith. I'm preparing to move because I'll be gone for a great deal of the year and my duty station will be out of the area. But I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting.

Lunah you only had 2 weeks w. orders!??? YIKES! I am so nervous to give notice w. out orders because that would be my luck... them telling me "Ohh we ment NEXT august". Haha maybe I am just a little paranoid with this since the whole process of joining the ANC has been such a rollercoaster ride. I was already told where my first duty station will be so do you think it is safe to say its definite? I want to give my employer a month notice beacause where I work they are limited on staff members to cover shifts and I don't want to cause a hassel for my co-workers. I have not even seen any unofficial orders yet... so I am really hesistant and unsure what to do in this situation. My recruiter just keeps telling me to be patient... I guess I gotta get used to being patient since I hear the Army is ALLLLL about hurry up and wait haha. But thanks for the heads up Lunah and Lalo Im also happy to know im not alone!

Yeah ... I knew my duty station in January, but the orders took a while because of funding -- this was during the more pronounced government budget issues, and it just took a while for our "seats" at BOLC to be funded. I totally understand the stress, but I think it's safe to say you can count on what you've been told. :)

Hi! I'll be going to BOLC in Aug. No, I haven't received my orders yet. We're supposed to receive them 45 days out. I think my unit is just a little behind. I've been in the military 3 years now. Looking forward to meeting my classmates!

Do not resign from your position. What you and everyone else who joins the military need to do is go on Military Leave of Absence. Is will hold your position with your employeer for 5 years. They might try to say you have to resign but you do not. When you give your letter make sure that it states that you are going on Military Leave and not resigning. Your employer can not refuse your Military Leave. It is best to check your employee hand book so see how you need to do this. By giving them notice that you are going on Military Leave vs resigning and something happens and you do not go in August you will still have a position without have to withdraw your resignation. Also, if for some reason you do not make the military a career and leave active duty before 5 years you have a position with your employer. This also covers you encase you get hurt during OBLC and ended up not making it.

Also, if you have any loans greater then 6% fill for relief on Thie soldier & sailors relief act. You can not do this until you have your orders. This will decrease all your loans to 6% which you had before you went on active duty. You will need to have your orders for this. Do a web search for a sample letter to be used. Call your lenders to find out where it needs to be sent. The Soldier & Sailor relief act is what you use to break your lease in your apartment, cell phone, car lease etc. Read up on it before you speak with your lenders etc. Your recruiter should be able to help you with this also.

Lindsay, I'm scheduled for the Aug class. I'm also near WRAMC if you have any questions. :)
