Attention Recovering Nurses!

I am an inactive RN recovering from chemical dependency with over 3 years clean and sober. I have petitioned the OBN for license reinstatement and if all goes well, I will be granted a probationary license in July. I am finding it challenging to 'network' with other recovering nurses and could use some guidance regarding practice re-entry, thoughts about career choices, etc. My plan is to relocate to Columbus upon reinstatement. Anyone know of any 'recovery friendly' opportunities?

Thanks for reading!

Talbott hall has a support group for nurses in recovery - free - small group - anonymous.

There's a post a page or so down titled 'ohio board alternative program' that has some good suggestions in it. You might check it out. Actually, I'll bump it for you so it should be at the top somewhere.

I am not from Ohio but I wanted to say congrats on being clean and sober for 3 years! Keep up the great work!

Recovering Nurse in Ohio

Good Luck to you!

Congrats to all of you who are winning the battle!!!! Rough stuff for nurses & families.

I thought in those cases you had to surrender your license and could never again be an RN? How does that work?

I am proud of all of you! Praying for your continued sobriety.

congrats you guys, i know it must be hard.

I am about to approach the hospital that I am currently on a leave of absence from since some drug use came to light. I am currently in an IOP program and have begun a road to recovery program (random urine drug screens). I attend daily aa meetings which had been a big part of my life. I had 22 years of sobriety and then decided to try to drink again. It led me to the drugs within 1 1/2 years. Fortunately I was caught thus allowing the opportunity to get my life back on track. I am curious to hear from anyone that may have had a similar experience who has returned to work. How did that take place and how has it been for you since you returned to work. any comments will be appreciated - thanks

Keep on Keeping on. Just do the next right thing, everything will fall in place if you let go and let God. You may be able to tell that I know the slogans. It looks like you have made it through the ruff part. I know of several nurses that have returned back to work. It is a long road. Some work in LTC,some in research, others ??? Just remeber to be as honest as you can be. I don't know your particulars, but be careful with what ever you do. We have a high stress job, and the temptations are all around us. Surround yourself with people in recovery and be accountable.
