So... does anyone else have any idea of where to start with the Functional Health Pattern Concept Map for 310?!?

So, I really don't understand the assignment for 310. Are we just suppose to fill in the blank concept map with the case study outline. That seems too simple because it's already organized in the case study. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

I think it is actually that simple...some things are out of order though. I had to read through the Perry and Potter book to figure out where a lot of the objective data went. I can't see it being very difficult because we havent even talked about how to put one of these together yet. Did you guys just copy and paste? Thats what I did, Im wondering if I should have done bullets....oh well.....I definitely agree that the week went wayyyyyyyyy too slow...and of course this weekend was gone in the blink of an eye! I hope the speed picks up or its gonna be a looonnnngg summer haha See you guys tomorrow!

No, I'm just going to copy/paste. Good news - Next weekend is a long weekend! Bad news - pharm test the following wednesday... haha. Seriously, the week felt long but I think that now that we're in it, the semester is going to fly by. :)

Man I love this forum! I was beginning to stress out with this whole concept map assignment because I wasn't sure if what I was doing (bulleting the info) was correct...luckily, my husband noticed my frustration and reminded me to check my "magic site" (so he calls it) for help lol. :lol2: Thank goodness I am not alone in this. You guys just reassured me that I was reading way too much into and it seems like it is what it is. :D See you guys tomorrow!

Yeah, I thought it was too simple as well... but then I took a stab at it and it isn't as simple as it seems because the subjective data (i.e. the data given by the patient) goes in certain areas whereas the objective data goes in other areas and a lot of the different pattern areas overlap (in my opinion, at least)! I'm still a bit confused and I read all the assigned readings and watched the Breeze presentation and it's still not entirely clear to me. I just did it as best I could. Granted it will be graded, but 5 points isn't too much. Hopefully she'll grade easy since we have no idea what we're doing! :clown:

There's also a concept map to do for 394 as well, if you haven't checked. Or at least you're supposed to print it out--it doesn't explicitly say we're supposed to do it, but I've attempted it nonetheless. Although I gave up about halfway because it is a lot more in the "gray area" than the other one. I wish our instructor's directions were actually explicit and clear for once... :dzed:

haha, yeah, for sure! Ah, well I'm not going to worry about it now. What's done is done, and if push comes to shove I can revise tomorrow morning. :p I'm going to head to bed now to get some luscious, wonderful sleep for class tomorrow :) There just aren't enough hours in the day! haha And if they don't explain it better tomorrow, I guess we can just form a study group and hound it out until we all get it! :) Anyone up for making a Pharm study group sometime soon? We have a week and a half until the first test! Yikes!

Oh well. For now, sleep. G'Night, all! See ya bright and early!

I feel like I need another day just to keep on top of everything...man there is a ton of reading for every class. Tarabara and tttt, how important is it to thoroughly read all the assigned chapters? I feel like if I only skim it and read the key summaries at the end, I might miss something important....how did you guys do it?

I guess my bed will have to wait :p haha. See, for our assignment for 310, we were given a case study; a big long paragraph about someone interviewing a 78-year old Native American man who was married. It gave all kinds of information, and for the most part it was simple. My problems were that I found some of the 11 areas to be vague and I could see the criteria overlapping. I found the Self-Concept, Cognitive/Perceptual, and Health Perception/Management to be the biggest culprits. One of the books even continued to confused me further! Under the Health Perception/Management section in one of the books (I can't remember which one), it brought up a point that was exactly the same as one of the sentences in our case study: the pt found himself getting fatigued after mowing the lawn for 15 minutes. In the book, it had that under Health Perception/Management but I personally think it fits under Activities/Exercise. But even then, at the bottom of our case study there was a lot of objective information like vital stats and assessment information and I had no idea where to put most of it. There was information like hearing and vision acuity which would go under Cognitive/Perceptual, but others like assessment of the thorax, abdomen and extremities that I had no idea where to put, as well as vitals like temperature, pulse, respiration and ox sat. I just kind of threw those into the middle and said "Additional Data" :uhoh3: There were also a couple random facts that they threw into the interview like about how the man was a smoker and smoked for 60 years and there was also a blurb about his inhaler that he has, but it's 2 years old because he never uses it and doesn't want to pay for a new one. I had no idea where that would go, either.

The 394 was a lot more confusing because there was a big list of traits (I guess you'd call it that) and we had to label them "O" for Objective info, "S" for subjective info, or "N" for neither. Maybe this is just me being too anal, but I found that many of the traits listed could have been both! There were some traits that were listed in quotation marks, which automatically make them subjective, but then there were a ton that could have been given directly from the patient or could have been observed by the nurse--there was no context given and the way it was written made it too obscure for me to understand clearly. I had no idea what to put for those. And then we had to put them all into the concept map, but another problem with the list of traits is that they're not all from one person--so there were several conflicting traits (one person couldn't have 3 different temperatures). So how could they be mapped in one map?

haha, maybe I'm just over-analyzing, but I got super confused :uhoh21:

What kept me going overseas is remember that the days may seem long, but the weeks go by fast. It's only been one, but once we get moving, before we know it we will be freaking out because we are getting ready for the NCLEX.

So on that note, I did the best that I could have with those given no real instruction. I really think that for 310 we will get full points so long as we put forth a real effort. And the one for 394 probably will just be something to do in class, on top of the 3 powerpoints! :)

Either way, it is nice being able to bounce ideas back and forth off of one another!! Oh yeah and don't forget that we have the abbreviations quiz for 311 on Wed.

See yall in the morning.
