Hey everyone! I thought this would be a great place to talk about Applications, TEAS Questions/Scores, Titers, and just getting to know each other!! Which semester are you applying for? Questions? It'll be fun! :) Introduce yourself!!!
I am applying for the fall term downtown. I'm nervous but totally excited! :)
You can order the ASU scrubs, and accessory items, here! ASU Home Page - Apparel Pro Health Care Wear
Their store is fairly close to main campus.
Awesome, slsimps4! I'll check it out.
Okay, so I have a recommendation regarding the black shoes. I have frequently heard that a lot of nurses and docs like to wear danskos. I went to dillards the other day and tried them on (to see what all the hype is about) and honestly, they were ridiculously comfortable. I mean these are probably the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. However, they run about $120.00. I just thought I would mention this since we'll all be on our feet for about 12-15 hours a day and these shoes last a very long time and don't wear down. I would really check them out at Dillards or online on their website. They have an all black pair called the "professional", which I really liked. :)
Congrats to all of you who got in! And to those on the wait list, don't lose hope! Quite a few people end up getting in that are placed on the wait list.
ASU will give you a skills bag (price for it is including in your tuition) the second week of lab that has almost everything you need in it basically. The only supplies I personally bought are a stethoscope and penlight. The skills bag has a penlight in it, but I don't like it so I bought one. All the supplies you need for junior 1 are in your skills bag or can be checked out from the school besides a stethoscope, which you need to purchase. The SLR will let you borrow blood pressure cuffs, gait belts, and reflex hammers! They will have scrubs at the meeting, but keep in mind that you only have to buy the scrub top, jacket, and polo from Apparel Pro. Scrub pants you can buy from anywhere! They just have to be black. Oh and you need a badge clip and the plastic thing the ID goes in. They should have those at the meeting! I think it was $5 or $6 for both last semester. You are allowed to wear danskos! As long as your shoes are closed toe, closed heel, and black leather, you're fine! Some of my classmates wear danskos and some of us wear leather tennis or work shoes. Whatever works for you! For the long shifts, I recommend getting some compression socks. I personally like Sockwell, which they sell on amazon. They're a little pricey, but seriously they help so much.
Clinical locations really depend on what's available since so many schools are competing for spots. This semester, junior 1s were at either Friendship Village, Westminster, Phoenix Mountain Nursing Center, Life Care of North Glendale, VA, or Sagewood for long term care. I think we got our clinical locations either right before school started or the first lab day. The junior 2s (adult health and psych) are at either Mayo, Banner Desert, Banner Thunderbird, Shea, or John C. Lincoln North Mountain for adult health and Oasis, St. Lukes, VA, or Banner Behavioral for psych. Keep in mind that the locations probably change every semester, though. Just thought I'd share the sites we used this semester and the ones we will be using in the Fall! To those of you who are starting in the summer, I'm like 99% sure the sites that I listed for junior 2 are your sites, too! You will be doing pysch for the first half of the semester, and adult health for the second half!
You're so welcome!
Oh man, that thing has like everything. Twin packs (used to pull up meds for injections), catheter kits for both IV and foley, central line dressing trays, cholraprep applicator, dressing change tray, some different types of dressings, extension set, filter straw (used for injections), sterile gloves, PPE equipment, IV start kit, needles, ostomy care equipment, penlight, sodium chloride and sterile water vials, sponges, suction kit, syringes, tape, measuring tape, tourniquet, blood vacutainer, and sterile water. The items we used this semester are: twin packs, needles, syringes, filter straw, sterile water, sodium chloride, tape (all for injections), ostomy care equipment (ostomy pouch, ostomy clamp, and ostomy wafer), dressing change tray and the dressings (tegaderm with frame and with window if you want to google it), sponges (gauze), PPE equipment (gown and mask, gloves are supplied in the lab), and the penlight! The skills bag have everything you need for the entire program :) I'm not entirely sure if we need to buy bandage scissors, but you definitely won't need them in junior 1!
Side note on stethoscopes. I've noticed that most of my classmates have Littmann stethoscopes. I personally have a Littmann Classic III and I love it. Stethoscopes are pricey for sure, but keep in mine that you will be using it for awhile. Do your research and figure out what's best for you when it comes to brand and model. And watch for back to school sales!
Oh, wow. Had I known that many items were in the skills bag I wouldn't of asked you. Thank you for typing and explaining all of them, though! :)
I am currently looking at the Litmann Classic III stethoscope as well. I noticed the price was best on the website steeles and had only six dollar bell engraving as well. I'm hoping that at the Junior 1 meeting, ASU might offer some sort of discounted group rate, though. We'll see!
Thank you!
Anyone else having trouble keeping themselves distracted until Thursday? I cannot even focus on studying for my patho final because it's so close:nailbiting:
I've been getting my home office ready. Ripped out the carpet and tiling it today, painted it on Sunday and will grout it tomorrow. Then Thursday morning I will put my desk back in and by Saturday it should be all set and ready to be a study sanctuary!

Also, last semester they sent us another email a couple days before the date of the Welcome Meeting, and it was super helpful and information heavy. It gave us a run-down of everything that the meeting was going to go over, and way more in depth about supplies offered and prices and the uniforms and a whole bunch of stuff. Hopefully they will do this again haha.
