I did some searching on how to do this but I still would like some more advice related more towards me. I work in a LTC that Im miserable at. I work tomorrow and tuesday but just got offered a full time position in a multi-doctor family healthcare team!!! It's a great move more hours and better pay. How do I quit immediately at my old place? The new place wants me to start monday and then I wouldn't be able to work tuesday at the LTC. Do I tell the nurse manager who's in tomorrow with a letter in writing and then come in monday and talk to the schedualer?
Im confused!
I haven't been very happy where I was from the get go. My cousins husband I'd the union rep where I was hired (I didn't know he wasa the big head at my work) and told me union wise they are having a hard time keeping the union happy and have lost a lot of nurses. My 2nd red flag was after I started working there the ministry has been in every week (not my floor) for complaints/reports etc... Then they give me my new scheduale and I'm working 15 days in a row switching between evening shifts and day shifts and wouldn't pay overtime. My ADOC's who I work closely with say I am a great nurse and they hope I stick around so I feel bad for them but incident report after report its crazy what happens here!

It is a law that you get paid overtime-- whether it is for all hours worked over 40/week and/or over a certain number in 24 hours, it depends on your state.
If you are owed overtime, you should contact your state's labor board. They can assist you in getting the money owed to you.
I had an issue once over not being paid, and I had a check in my hand within 2 days after contacting the labor board. Great people!

you might find that the place you are quitting will cut you loose as soon as they read your letter. sometimes employers don't want you around for another minute if they know you have resigned. if that happens, you can smile to yourself, tell the new place you'll be right over after all, they will be happy, and all is well.
Yes it is bad form. Be prepared that you can NOT use this place as a reference and that when you place this job on your resume and they are called they will say....not for re-hire.....which can reflect badly on you. Technically speaking, especially in an "at will state" neither of you need to give notice to end employment. It's just the polite, professional thing to do...give notice.I will share...I did this once for the perfect dream job. I didn't care about burnt bridges..... I hated the ******* dump........
My dream job ended up needing budget cuts, 18 months later, and dumped me one morning with a severence check.
