Published

Im a new LPN moving to Ashland, MO. It's between Columbia & Jefferson City. I'm trying to fing out what LPN are being paid in area. I've heard some low number $13 - 14.00 and hr? Would I be able to support myself making that there? I'm applying to RN programs in area. I need to know if ill be able to pay rent and eat while I do it. Any salary info would be great...thanks.

Hey sorry no one's replied in a long time. I work about an hour and half south of you and I make just fine on 14.25 and hour....you just have to budget it out and save up if you want a nicer place or what not. I can afford 450 rent and food...just have to budget but you can make it on 14.00..and just think the more experience you get..the more money you make. Some places in SWMO even pay 15

Thanks for information. Good to know.

Is this in Long Term Care, Hospital, Or Clinic setting? (Also interested in moving to Springfield MO, interested in working for Cox.) I know the cost of living down in MO is way better than here! Just more so concerned about crime levels in that area, i have been hearing that crystal meth is a big issue in Southern MO?? any truth to that??

Unfortunately yeah it is a big issue. And LTC...hospitals here pay pennies in reality. And at this point Hospitals are also not hiring LPNs here, just LTC and Dr's offices, And yeah meth's a big issue for the police...kinda embarresing since it's such a beautiful part of the country.

Thanks for the truthful answer!! That is the only thing that really worries me, (as we live in a very safe community now.) What would you expect starting pay to be in the clinic setting?? Also, with LTC in MO, what is average nurse/patient ratio there?? (Here a good ratio is about 1 nurse/20 patients, rehab short term stay unit) I have noticed lots of openings in LTC in Southern MO area currently! Thanks so much for the info!! Am hoping to move by Jan!

There are several staffing agencies that supply LPN's to UMC clinics outpatient. As of last year the per diem rate was a flat 20.00 and hours were plentiful, as long as you had your one years exp. If you need more info, pm me and i'll get you the name of some of the staffing agencies. I lived in that area until this spring, when i relocated. I worked in a local hosp doing a wknd package and made 22.0 hourly. The money's there, you just need to know where to look.

Just because the meth problem is there doesn't make it unsafe. I would say SWMO is still a relatively safe community to live in..just depends on where..Lots of small towns around Springfield...

Hmm nurse patient ratio..depends on the facility. I would ask when applying if you have a med tech..if you don't I honetsly think that spells trouble a lot. where I work I have from 15-30 patient ratio depending on what unit I work on.

Thank you for the info sparrowhawk and nurse_mo1986, i am in the process of transfering my current license to MO. Any names of hospitals or SNF's that offer weekend programs in the Springfield/Southern MO area would be Most Helpful!! Definately willing to work, every weekend! Thanks so much!!

Just caught up on this post, and would like to give some input. I live in Southwest MO and it is a wonderful place to live and work. I work in a clinic and the pay is about $11-12/hr., but I live in a smaller town and I pay my bills and have some play money.

Yes there are drug problems, but on the whole I think this is great place!

Definately..I wouldn't live anywhere else honestly. And at this point I'm fairly certain you won't find a hospital job...SNF for sure, Clinics possibly. I think there's ONE LPN job open right now in Cox and its nights -_-

I was wondering if you could give me the name of some of the agencies you mentioned that hire LPNs. That is really where I think I'd like to work for as soon as I can. I'll be in columbia area. Thanks.
