A's in Nursing School

Published

Hey everyone, I passed third semester (Med Surg 2) but I am curious as to how many people actually get A's in nursing school. We only had 2 girls (no guys in our class) get A- (92%). The majority got C's and B- and only 6 (including myself) got B's. I mean honestly I didn't kill myself studying this semester and I managed to pull off an 86% but it seems like even if you do study your butt off we are all gonna end up with B's!!! Any other schools experience this?

I got an A in Med Surg IV this semester, with a 95.5% average. I did not think it was possible. I did not kill myself too much. I just like med surg. I understand Cardiac, Respiratory, Renal and shock very well. I did not do well in Med Surg III, got a B-. I had a death in the family, in which I failed one exam terribly in Med Surg 3. I probably would have gotten a B, since my average was an 86 prior the death.

I'm in my second year and have a 4.0...and it may not last as my Med-Surg final is Thursday and I am in no way motivated to study for it. I've been very lax about this one...I guess I'm getting tired from all of the studying over the last two years.

I see myself in you. I never killed myself over trying to get A's. I did sometimes, and most of the time I got B's, and I was completely content with that. Nursing school is already hard as it is, and self added stress isn't needed. So prepare yourself as much as you can and go for it.

No A here. I'm shotting for a B, but will be fine with a C. Working full time and having a family means accepting what I can do and can't do. I thing getting an A in nursing school is harder because of the type of learning and the questions you see on the exam. Ours are NCLEX type and they are not cut and dry like many of my other classes. It was the same way in the 2nd half of LPN school.

Be proud of your B. :)

Its hard as hell at my school. An a is 93 and up and I got 3 A's 2 B's and one ****** C (74) and still cant make an A in the class even if I got a 100 on the final!!! I def. felt like I was one of the top students but I am sure one of the prude girls who cry if they dont get an A will have an A average.

I got an A- in med surge this quarter, but boy did I have to study for it. First quarter the A's were a lot easier to come by than this quarter. Oh, and a 92% is considered a B, doesn't that suck?

The fact that a 92 is a B+ does suck! I am totally content with my B...I also am a single mom and work 2 hours aa week at a Hospital so I think I am really fortunate to have mde it with a B lol.

First official grade from first semester is an A+ (97%), so I'm happy with that start. I will probably end up with three As and two Bs, but I'm satisfied as I tried my best. When you have three exams at or above 30% of your grade each, you have to be on the ball and if you slip once its unfortunate.

As GPA crazy we can all get, its important to remember that our foremost goal is to become competent and qualified nurses!

Neverminding the fact that our GPAs are not going to matter when we go job hunting--all that will matter is that we pass the NCLEX :)

Some employers do request transcripts, and many students plan on pursuing graduate studies, so it can't be tossed by the wayside so easily.

Oh, I'm not saying they mean nothing at all--they do for graduate school and such--but for most of the garden-variety RN jobs we're going to go for post-graduation, our grades probably won't make much of a difference as to whether we are hired so long as we're licensed. Or so our CIs tell us :)
