A's in Nursing School

Published

Hey everyone, I passed third semester (Med Surg 2) but I am curious as to how many people actually get A's in nursing school. We only had 2 girls (no guys in our class) get A- (92%). The majority got C's and B- and only 6 (including myself) got B's. I mean honestly I didn't kill myself studying this semester and I managed to pull off an 86% but it seems like even if you do study your butt off we are all gonna end up with B's!!! Any other schools experience this?

1st semester 2 A's & 2 B's sure it will be worse next semester, lol.

My nursing class final grades are an A- and an A so far, but I don't think I'll achieve that this semester unless I do brilliantly on my final tomorrow! I'll be happy with a solid B!:wink2:

I can't say that it's impossible to make an A in nursing school because I just found out that I made a 95 in Pharmacology this semester...HOWEVER...I do feel that there are certain classes that it's extremely difficult to make an A. I barely made a B in my Fundamentals class and worked my fingers to the bone trying to make the best grade possible. The majority of my classmates have c's and a few b's so don't feel bad...it's the same way EVERYWHERE

Our class is called Foundations of Nursing Practice, split into two semesters - the first semester was spent in an LTC and next semester we will be in the hospital setting (can't wait! :D) so it is kind of like Med-Surg 1 & 2. I don't know how many people in the class got A's this semester, but I ended up with a solid B. Over half of the class failed the final, though, and one girl ended up failing the class, so now she has to repeat it - clinical, class *AND* LRC time. And she will now be put behind at least a year because Foundations 1 is only offered during the fall and by failing Foundations 1, she cannot progress to Foundations 2. I feel bad for her, but at the same time she should have sought for help or something :(

I have had straight A's so far, and it will crush me the first time I do not get an A in nursing school. I try to keep it in perspective that a B in nursing courses is like a 102% in any other class.

I do know that many hospitals around my area ask for grade transcipts for new grads, so I do not count on passing the NCLEX as a guarantee to a good job

I made a 97 this first semester, but I feel for those of my classmates who struggled, and I don't know who I will see missing when we go back in January, I know many were needing in the high 90s on the final to pull the lowest passing grade.:(

It can be done, but it's not easy. I just graduated this past week from a school that has almost a 50% attrition rate and I managed to make a 4.0 all the way through. I scored a 1085/99.99% on my exit HESI. However, I had alot of medical background (in veterinary) to bring with me. Many employers DO want to see transcripts. If you are looking in a competitive specialty, it can be a deciding factor. If you want to further your education, it will also make a difference in being accepted to the program of YOUR choice. Don't beat yourself to death trying to do it, but don't give up on doing your best either. You can survive anything for a short time.

Hang in there!
