Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

nope, you will be contacted by your branch manager by email(civilian email) or by the phone number listed on your application. There is a period of between 30-90 days they have to contact you and get things ready. Basically some more of the hurry up and wait. Use as much of the time as possible to PT and to get familiar with Army basics. good luck to everyone out there.

Nursespouse are we supposed to contact the branch manager? All my recruiter told me was that I had to wait for my orders. Any additional information that you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, and have a happy and safe New Year.

I work in the same building as your branch manager so I contacted her. She is an awesome leader and will work with you. She told me that 2 of the Soldiers that were selected with my wife will be going to Bragg along with my wife as this is where I was due to report, so she helped us along with LTC Weisgrahm. Her name is LTC Hartman. Nurses spouse is correct they will contact you via email with a welcome letter and things will move rapidly from there. AGain good luck and congrats as I will not be on here for a while as we are preparing to move and both will be attending school.

Yes that is the TIS requirement. Even though she will be a 1LT she will still have to wait for that board to get promoted. She will not be comming in with 30 months time in grade. That credit is only for getting her in as a 1LT. She will still be outranked by any 1LT that was in with less than 30 months time in grade but was commissioned and promoted to 1lt before her. She will still have to wait the 42 months or when that board panel meets to select that year group.

I am not so sure she will have to wait the 42 months to go to the CPT's board. If she did she would be a 1LT with 3 1/2 yrs. When I came in I had constructive credit and went to the CPT's board based on my TIG as a 1LT not TIS as an officer. Her year group will be adjusted to reflect her date of rank just like mine was. Also, she will out rank any 1LT who has a date of rank less then her. 1LT do not have 30 months in grade unless they have some issues and unable to be picked up for CPT. When the MILSPER message comes out for any promotion board it will have the dates of zones of considerations and it is based on what your date of rank is for group going before the board.

By any chance do you know who those other 2 are? I am just curious to see where I may be placed : )

Well, my age in grade waiver finally went through. I commissioned today and am now a member of the Reserves as a 66F (pending all the background checks, security clearances, etc.). Hope that those who are waiting hear something soon.

If my packet is marked as pending reviewing (i was on the OML before) and my scrolling is pending. Does that mean i got in?

Thanks Jeck. This is good to know. I knew of course there would be a TiS or TiG req just not sure which would apply.

I talked to Army Health recruiter today. I'm an FNP (would be a 66p), the Army has 7 slots for this fiscal year two are already filled. The recuriter was a biochemist by trade and didn't really know all that much about nursing in the Army. Does anyone know how the Army uses FNPs (66p) Are they deployed down range in CSH's or are they just used in primary care on posts? or somewhere in between?

If your waiting to scroll. From my understanding your in brother. Your waiting on congress to basically commission you, usually probably attached to some other bill or something. It's a formality.

Congrats, we'll deserved.

From what I understand, the Army does use them but I am not sure if they deploy. If they do, it is not as often as the PAs. I am currently at an army hospital and the OIC of the family practice clinic is an FNP, not an MD. I am guessing with the budget crunch, we will see more NPs and PAs in the military health system.

Does anyone know what the standard is for doing sit-ups? I am looking more for what kind of form they expect you to have. Does it matter if someone holds your ankle verses your calf? How do they want your arms to be (behind your head, or your chest)? ... I have been working out constantly, trying to get ready for the PT test at BOLC. However, I want to make sure that I am training the proper way. Any info that someone could give me would be greatly appreciated.
