Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Specialties Government

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

She will need her orders to be able to get her ID and yes it can be at any base including reserve centers which have a ID section. Before she goes she needs to contact the ID section to find out their hours and if an appointment is needed.

Awesome and thank you jeck, another question that I should have added, what about our children and myself, must we wait till she adds us at BOLC or is this done when she gets her ID?

Hey guys and gals, this thread has officially become the most popular thread ever on the government/military forum. pretty cool. Hooahnurse I was wondering after the scrolling and orders come in, can she go to any military post and get an ID, like navy post?

Hey brother, I think she will have to wait to commission. I thought My wife would commission prior to attending BOLC but I guess they do their actual swear in when they get to San Antonio. The reason for this is once she is authorized an ID card, so are you LOL (Good Stuff) but the Army does not want to open that can of worms until they get her in school.

Hooahnurse,

Thank you so much for the guidance. I am living in Germany for 2 years now. I still have almost three more months. I am waiting till tuesday when my recruiter is back in his office. I do not have a single evidence of my selection other than the word from my recruiter. However i have already told my chain of command about my selection. I am just hoping that my scrolling result comes back fast. So that i get commissioned and i can put in for deferment or may be get to go to school before my PCS date. According to my old recruiter, at the latest i should be in school before April. I have a feeling i will hear back something next week. But I will definitely get in touch with you next week. Also how do i send a private email. I will definitely need a sample of 4187. I know 4187 is like a god paper in military.

You can email me at [email protected]. Send me all of your unit info and I will put the 4187 together for you and have it back to you ASAP. Also, the good news is that January class is not even full yet so I am sure you will get into March class if nothing administratively stops you.

Greetings everyone,

I am an RN with almost 8 years experience. Some med/surg, a lot of case mgmt, presently working trauma/surgical ICU at a level 1 trauma center. We see everything here. I signed a 2 yr retention contract in exchange for my residency training to be qualified to take the CCRN. I not only have an interest in joining the ANC but I would like to attend CRNA school as well. The caveat, I am 39 years young, turning 40 in May. I would greatly appreciate some solid advice about my movements and how quickly I need to act. I reviewed the AMEDD website and noticed the age cut off is age 42. I have read some conflicting info about waivers, etc. I actually spoke with a recruiter and was advised that I could get a waiver. What do they review regarding waivers and what do they take into consideration. I will have my BSN within the next year as well. Please help because I really enjoy working in the ICU but my career goal has been pursuing CRNA. Any sound advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

I would say act quickly. Depending on the timeline of your taking that CCRN and the other things you are doing I would say act very quickly. You will be competitive as a nurse already, but the next board is a year from now, so you have a little bit of time. You need to visit the nearest healthcare recruiter in your area, do not go to a regular Army recruiter only talk with a healthcare recuiter. There are waivers available but they are few and far between. After speaking to a healthcare recruiter you will have a better gauge on the timeline to your next available board. From there spend all the time you can on padding your resume', certifications, references and varied experience. Let me say you are by no means and old person, but in the Armys case you are going beyond their need. I know it sounds terrible, but age can be a negative on your application, as I have stated before age in the military is a currency. Again I know you are well below the cutoff, but all things being equal if your resume is the same as another applicant and the only difference is age, they almost certainly will take the younger applicant. So pad the heck out of that resume' and start exercising alot. I do not know your physical condition, but spend this time you have preparing and going above and beyond the minimum standards to physical fitness and height and weight. I hope this helped you.Locate Us | GoArmy.com

I believe it can be done at that time. She will need birth certificates for the kids and your mariage certificate. She needs to ask her recruiter for form to have you and the children entered into DEERS. If you are not in DEERS you will not be eligible for medical coverage etc. Your ID cards will be needed for medical coverage under Tricare and for base privileges.

She could have this done twice, with the last one done within 72 hours of being on active duty. She can get a ID once she recieves her orders from what others have said on different post but will not be eligible for benefits, (Tricare, dental, etc.) until she reports to active duty.

You need to move now and contact a recruiter the earliest that you would leave for OBLC would be 2014. Age waivers ill be very diffucult to obtain with the drawdowns. Since the Army is only 40 direct commission nurses this year there are more applicates then slots.

I am not aware of anyone in the management command, a few people that could probably help you would be Jeckrn, LunahRn, and Hooahnurse though. The most definite help would come from a healthcare recruiter though.
