Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

I am jealous that some of you are scrolled and know school dates already. My wife and I still have no clue. Her transcripts will not be updated until december 15, so I think that may be what she is waiting on. I am hoping she gets Lewis or carson though lol.

Nothing will happen until her transcripts are up dated. FYI Lewis & Carson are 2 of the most requested postings but new nurses are placed at both.

yeah I have heard alot that they are requested alot, and now with the new law changes in both states, I can just imagine they will be even more requested lol. We just love the pacific northwest and the snowy mountains in Colorado, I have an old battle buddy that lives south of tacoma also, so we are hoping to meet up again.

That is a fun new direction to take this post in while we wait. Lets name our top picks and our specialties! I requested Ft Sam 1st and Ft Lewis second. I am a critical care burn/trauma nurse.

I really want San Antonio as I woul love to do burns again and I will miss trauma horribly if I have to do med ICU. I will be happy anywhere here in the US I think. I grew up in ALaska though and live in the Midwest now so I just might melt in the heat of TX

Okay so I just talked to my recruiter. He said that he went up to Boston yesterday and that there were 7 selected for USAGPAN and the other 3 were from last years OML. He said there were only 5 on the OML. He didn't mention anything about what it looks like as far as the names on the OML being moved up. Anyone else hear anything different?

I went through BOLC with a couple of burn nurses, one of whom was stationed at SAMMC or BAMC or whatever they're calling it at Ft. Sam these days. Turns out they don't really use active duty RNs in the burn unit at Ft. Sam because they don't want to risk them deploying away ... at least, that's what we were told. Neither of them ended up working burn, unfortunately. I know they miss it!

Oh well there goes that fantasy! Haha... I will hold out hope for staying in trauma and sunshine then. Good to know though! I do just feel blessed to be selected, I am just starting to have so many questions and anxieties about all the change that is to come. I am still on the shelf waiting for the scrolling process.

Hooahnurse,

Let me be clear about what you just said. So your wife was selected and she already did her commission and now she is going to OBLC in Jan.That's what i understood. Does she already have her orders. Please correct me if i am wrong. I got selected for nurses with less then two years of experience pending waivers. When i called my recruiter about the pending waivers, they had no idea what the waiver was about. They just said it could be scrolling. Now they have been to Boston all week for their Brigade meeting. I haven't heard anything from them. I finally got hold of them today and he said he does not have computer access at the moment. SO i have to call him back on tuesday when he comes back to Germany. I know army is all about hurry up and wait. But this anxiety has been going on for months. It will not get over until i get to the school. At least the biggest anxiety about getting selected is gone for now. I am currently enlisted. I already told my chain of command that i got selected but i do not have a single piece of paper to prove it. Its just the word from recruiter. Has anyone else heard back from scrolling process or pending waiver?

I know playing the waiting game is hard, but like another post said your waiver must be for something else. My wife was the original applicant who was rady for commission right away. She did not commission, she signed her letter of intent as yu will commission once you arrive to BOLC. But how long have you been in Germany, because if you have been there less than a year you might be waiting on approval for ETP from the Joint Federal Travel Regulation (JFTR). It is the regulation that covers all things travel. At HRC we are dealing with alot of these ETP requests. But just be patient, I know some command climates are not the best, just know you will be doing better things for our Army soon enough.

Congratulation Jessa,

All the NCOs and officer from my recruiting station are on Boston for some conference. They should be back Tuesday. I just wanted to find out if it was a waiver or scrolling process. He didn't give me specifics of it. Hopefully i hear something back when he comes back. I will definitely get the specifics about that on tuesday. I will post it here if i can't get the satisfactory answer. There are a lot of people in here who knows a lot about this process. Thank you for you help. Since i am an enlisted soldier, i have PCS order sitting on my desk for 16 Mar 2013.I really hope i go to school before that, just to get me out of lot of paperwork. My recruiter told me that my PCS order as an enlisted soldier will drop automatically when i accept the commission and HRC gets the paperwork. I am not sure how that works. Just waiting eagerly like everyone else to get on the plane and go to San Antonio. I guess i might go to the Xmas market and get me some good German gluhwein for this cold winter and try to stay warm and calm.

What you need to do is request a deferment of your orders YESTERDAY!!! Because of the time it takes for command signatures then HRC processing if you do not do it now you could be held up. It is not an automatic thing, trust me I work at HRC. If you PCS it does not matter what you are selected for you will not be able to attend school for 12 months. Submit a 4187 along with the board results from your recruiter and if you need an example send me a private email and I will put one together for you. Again good luck.

Hooahnurse,

Thank you so much for the guidance. I am living in Germany for 2 years now. I still have almost three more months. I am waiting till tuesday when my recruiter is back in his office. I do not have a single evidence of my selection other than the word from my recruiter. However i have already told my chain of command about my selection. I am just hoping that my scrolling result comes back fast. So that i get commissioned and i can put in for deferment or may be get to go to school before my PCS date. According to my old recruiter, at the latest i should be in school before April. I have a feeling i will hear back something next week. But I will definitely get in touch with you next week. Also how do i send a private email. I will definitely need a sample of 4187. I know 4187 is like a god paper in military.

Hey guys and gals, this thread has officially become the most popular thread ever on the government/military forum. pretty cool. Hooahnurse I was wondering after the scrolling and orders come in, can she go to any military post and get an ID, like navy post?
