Finally after clearing MEPs, completing 50+page application, finding references and signing my DA61 sheet my packet will go before Army Nurse Board Nov.15 2016, hopefully if I get selected I will comission as a 1stLT - just wanted any advice or 2 cents for those who have had military experience as a nurse.

I have 2 boys and I chose the reservist route vs active to prevent them from having to move around too much and being able to live close at home to them. I've been an ICU nurse for almost 8 years and have always wanted to serve my country and this website has given me so much information so for the military nurses out there how is it? Why did you choose reserve vs active or vice versa

I live in Houston according to my recruiter I will probably drill in Fort Sam in SA one weekend a month I was hoping there would be someone out there who can tell me about the experience, as far as drill weekends, scheduling, juggling civilian job and life etc. my recruiter has done well filling me in but reading personal stories on here is always great input as well.

Thanks again and if someone can reach out to me personally please PM me with your email address I'd love to hear about your experience

I don't. Hoping to find out more Monday. To my understanding, if you were on the OML and did not get picked up before the end of the physical year, you had to reboard. I could be wrong on that.

Okay!!! Thanks for your reply! Please, share any information you receive!! My recruiter said he will let me know whats going on Monday as well.

I will. Let me know what your recruiter says on Monday. Have a great weekend.

So regarding the initial training requirements, someone on Rally Point replied telling me BOLC was now in three phases. No other information.

@Skiggers,,,, My recruiter just Text me and they are trying to figure out why we were all put on the OML. I'll let you know when I hear more.

I found out today that I'm open for any board review as a psychiatric NP. Apparently, the need is so high "psych nurse practitioners are open to any board until availability is met." This makes sense as I've withheld my reference letters not wanting to expend my human capital.

Hello all. Congratulations to those of you selected by this Nov board. I missed the deadline due to several paperwork SNAFU's and will have my packet at the upcoming Dec board. I'm in for a USAR 66T (ER Nurse) position.

Ray you and I have several similarities, including geography. I'll be attached to Ft. Sam Houston as well as no one else really seems to have slots for ER nurses.

For those of you selected has anyone heard mention of a pre-BOLC to take place at Ft. Sill? This was something I am being told was recently mandated (effective 1 OCT) but I can't find information on it.

It's ok just hang tight, it's a pain but worth it. It took like 5 months to get my packet together. My recruiter said i would drill with the 7454th Army Med so there's a chance we might be in the same unit

Do you live near San Antonio? What is the current incentive for ER nurses if you don't mind me asking and is reserves your first military experience or have you served prior? I like to get as much input as possible. The only thing I've heard about BOLC is the first part is online, will keep u posted tho and goodluck

No, I live in NE Texas. It's about an 8HR drive for me. Did your recruiter go over travel pay with you? I can't get a straight answer on that and it makes me rather nervous knowing I may be out of pocket for a big trip.

ER nurses did not receive bonuses. Ironically, I too was up for 66s but kicked back for ER experience>ICU. Bye bye 75K bonus at that point.

Have you taken the oath yet, or found out any time frames?

I have no prior service but am looking forward to it!

That's awesome you are willing to make that drive. Honestly I don't think it would be that bad plus it's only one weekend a month, there's people who make daily/weekly trips like that. I know there is LIK (lodging in kind) for a free room. The IDT travel reimbursement I think is unit specific but I don't see y u wouldn't qualify for that.

There should be another incentive available. Try to ask ur recruiter about the accession bonus. If not y don't u go for 66s, do u have any ICU experience or just ER? But if not possible commissioning as a lieutenant is still a great accomplishment IMO, I'm suppose to take my oath in around 30 days and then start drilling the month after

@Marine7

My recruiter told me 20 applicants nationwide applied for the 66P position and 2 were selected and came off the OML from last year. If my memory serves me correct he also said 9-7 66p were chosen last year :/. He did tell me when he glanced at the list my name was second and I would be a Captain. BUT he did say that the order could be differnt. So now its just a wait and see.

I'm not sure if there are any open slots for December unless someone declines the position/ could not meet the requirement or how accurate the information is from my recruiter.

You will have to pay your driving expenses. Depending on funding there might be lodging in kind (LIK) and the Army puts you up in a hotel. When I was drilling it was not always available. You will be able to write off your expenses on your taxes.

Thank you for the information. Still not sure what is all going on. The only thing I know for sure is that mission quota has not been filled. I believe that is what is confusing everyone.
