Questions regarding Maricopa CC's Nursing program

U.S.A. Arizona

issue resolved - and no useful information in my posts, hence no need for it here

I think a better system might be to offer those wait-listed the opportunity to take some nursing-necessary courses during that time. Nutrition and Pharm are currently rolled into the nursing program though MCCCD. I've seen some other colleges allow for the taking of those two courses anytime before x Block. If nothing else, it lightens the load for when one does get into the program, that they have more time to concentrate on the clinical nursing stuff.

I also think that it was a bad move to remove the CNA requirement if for no other reason that it may have weeded a few out who weren't cut out for nursing.

I don't agree with you on the CNA thing. I am a Medical assistant and I feel my training was far mor in-depth than CNA. Yes, CNA's train a little more with patient care...transfers, and whatnot. However MA's learn terminology, phlebotomy, wound care, and on and on. I was extremely relieved that they tossed out that requirement however through EBSN I believe I will be getting that training anyhow.

Just hearing everyone talk about pre-reqs and wailists....I have no patience at this point for either. I am just gonna go the pricey route and go to Ethel Bauer. Maybe it's not the right thing for everyone especially those of you thathave worked so hard on the difficult pre-reqs. Im not sure I could handle all of them. Those are difficult classes. Not to say the program itself will be a breeze or anything. I just don't want to get burnt out. It looks like I will have to wait until Oct. of 2007 but I am fine with that.

It would be nice if there was a solution to the shortage of programs and instructors but the truth is, even in california it's rediculous. In my home town there is 1 program for about 7 cities. Their system is a lottery and they do take into account your GPA. It is very tough to get in.

You're not exactly going to get around taking those same difficult prereqs by going through EBSN. I can't imagine even a diploma program not forcing some courses in A&P and Micro on ya.

How much does EB school cost? Would is take you longer to pay off the school debt than it would waiting to get into MCC?

26K according to a thread down below.

Oh my!

Has anyone considered the Diploma program in town? Do they have a waitlist?

I imagine it will take longer than 2 years to pay off that debt of 26k! Wouldn't it be better, finacially to wait it out on the list?

Oh, you are right, they incorporate them into their program.

wow thats alot of money for that school... i wonder if its really worth it... i might as well just wait lol

Sassie, I was just reading your post on Ethel Bauer and not starting until Oct.07. Do they have a wait list at their cost of tuition? Does Pima and Apollo the other pricier schools have a waiting list? Thanks for your replies.

What is it about this Ethel B school of nursing that makes it worth the 600% increase in tuition over M.C.C? There must be some sort of big incentive, or noone would pay it. You said you would rather go there than MCC, why is that?

I looked into MCC for the ADN. By the time I added up all the time it would take to take the pre-reqs to the pre-reqs and then take the pre-reqs, I realized I could get my BSN in that amount of time at ASU. So, that's where I'm at. There is no wait list at ASU. You either get in, or you don't. I apply to the program next semester. We'll see what happens...

I came across this tonight:

Some good charts which show enrollment, placement, time spent waiting to get into the program. Spans the last ten? years or thereabouts.
