U.S.A. Arizona

hi everyone! i just discovered chamberlain college of nursing in phx,az and it seems like a pretty smooth entrance and acceptance process but i have a question. if your act/sat scores are good enough and above what they say the minimum is required, do you still have to take any sort of entrance test to get into the school? i read some about the a-2 test but i did not know if you have to take it if your sat scores are fine?... your information and advice is appreciated! thanks so much in advance!

I have a question about the scheduling. Is it flexible or is it fixed? I have the majority of Pre-requisites finished from other schools. The rest are scattered between quarters. Do I have to wait for Chamberlain to hold those classes on their schedule?

As far as the Nursing courses, those are fixed, except that they may have two different times. You must go through those in the order Chamberlain has them. The other prerequisites can be moved around and taken at any time, either in person or online.

Hello! I am starting at Chamberlain next week.. I have to take Anatomy (the equivalent to the bio202). I also have NR222 and the success class for my first session. Session B , I will have College Algebra. From what I've read, I should do the Algrebra at home instead of on campus? I truly hate this class and have failed it before at PVCC..its that darn "My Math Lab"! But school is pretty far for me to drive..if unnecessary. Also, how is the Bio? Thanks for any input! I am excited to start :D

I took all my math's at PVCC, so I really can't advise you on that. I do know that if you are having difficulty's with it, then it would be better to take it in person so you have the direction of the instructor. I just finished NR222 (it was the semester length one, though). Lucky for you, NR222 is now only a session long. I have an A in the class. Just study her powerpoints! I didn't take the BIO her, either, but my friends did and they all are carrying A's and they love the instructor. It is a lot of studying, though. Next semester, I start my clinicals. I just got my books just for the semester... TEN NURSING BOOKS!!! It's a lot of information! ...But I absolutely love this school! TO be honest, I am also a little apprehensive because of mass amounts of information I am going to need to learn! I heard it's an average of three hours PER DAY of just plain reading the books. No reviewing, studying, homework, in included in that time. You may get a day or two per week off, but highly unlikely. It all depends on how each person retains information. (Keep in mind that this is an accelerated program.)

After attending nursing school for one semester, I will advise anyone contemplating nursing that if you are not truly devoted and motivated to do nursing, then I would NOT advise you to go to nursing school until you are. It's "that" difficult!

Good Luck! You will need it (everyone in this field does).

Any other questions, feel free to ask away!

 UGH I just failed Adult Health one. Stupid teacher was a jerkface too. 0.7% away from passing. My advice to everyone, don't be anywhere close to borderline. That stupid HESI did it. Do other schools require that as the final? That's the only thing I hate about this school.

It's an Arizona policy in Nursing Schools.... No rounding of grades. Looks like you'll be with my class next semester. Why do you think you failed? I'm asking specifically. Do you think you could've read a bit more? Studied a bit more? Changed something to help you pass? What do you think you could've done differently to help you pass? I'm asking for tips for me to pass next semester. I know that there were three people that failed Assessment this session. I was one of the few students that passed with exceptional grades. It was tough, but it was worth all the hard work.

I thank you in advance for your advice.

Assessment is very easy compared to Adult Health, I understand the policy for no rounding, but he wouldn't even let me see my past scan trons to make sure there was not points lost in translation. The assessment HESI I believe I was well prepared for because the book was good and we had an excellent instructor. I could have read more but the med surg book is so poorly written. I was fine until the HESI test. I mean we are taught that normal levels for things are a certain amount yet but HESI standards its different (ie HCO3 levels 22-26 well hesi said its like 21-28) it's ******** like that that screwed me up. They have given us a HESI book to study. My advice is just read and practice HESI questions as well as doing NCLEX questions. Good luck to you in session B :specs:

Thanks for the advice. I would've put up a stink about looking at my old scantrons, also. I would've set up an appointment to meet with the instructor, outside of class time. I also received a HESI study book a week before finals. I did pretty well on the HESI exam. I've learned that most people didn't do so well. I think it just all depends on the way an individual "thinks" and rather they can think "critically" or not. It takes practice.

Now, do you not have to go to your second session in Adult Health? Or do you still go in the case that you do pass and then next semester, you don't have to take the second session again? I wish you luck!

I did really well on the HESI for assessment. Not very well for fundamentals but I still got a B in both classes :] As for my semester, I'm allowed to take session B, then I will retake session A with your class, then move on to pediatrics (missing OB) then hopefully taking OB and Mental health at the same time. I'm not sure if they will let me I know of another student trying to do this. It works with the pre-reqs so we are able to try it. Were you in NR222 in the AM or afternoon class?

I just finished with NR302, not NR222, and I was in both. I started in the mornings and then changed to the afternoon's (a few people did the same). Just be careful in regards to the classes. If a class requires Clinicals, you will not be able to take two clinical courses in the same session. It sucks with the fact that they split everything into sessions now, because of your situation, exactly. It makes it more difficult on the school to figure out each session for each student that doesn't pass.

No I meant when you took NR222 or are you in all three? Nr222, 224 and 304? I took 222 last semester with 224 and assessment. If you are a class behind me, I wondered if I was in your 222 class :) And yeah I don't think they will let me which sucks but I'll try and work something out.

They let you take all three together? Wow! I wish I would've done that! Okay, that makes sense. I took my NR222 last semester and I believe I was in the afternoon class. Which one were you in?

I was in the morning class. They let about 5 or 6 other students do that because we have all of our general education credits done, meaning we had no other classes to take but just the NR222, and it's all about money so they put us in all they could!
