Are the waiting lists really 2 years long in Northern California?

Published

I live in Vallejo, Ca and Im about to start going to Solano Community College for my pre-reqs...I was just wondering, because I have heard that the waiting lists are like 2 years long, does anyone really know if this is a fact?Have you ever heard of a waiting list that long? Thats rediculous!:banghead:

I no longer live in N. CA, but from reading this board that seems to be the case. From the, probably 50 posts I've read about this, 2 years is a good average, but cc's are the worst. Getting into a bsn program or going thru private (ie expensive) universities seems to be a bit shorter.

i heard same too. last semester i met a woman in my human development class. she is starting her classes in this fall. she waited for 2 years to get into the program. by the way i am doing pre-reqs at solano.

They can be....but I got accepted on my first try. My best friend also got accepted on her first try...to the same school I will be going to so what we started together we are finishing together. Don't give up...hang in there.

Some schools don't maintain a waiting list from year to year. One community college time stamps the application on the day that they receive them. You can imagine the line being quite long. During the application window, applications are time-stamped and a wait list number (good until the next application deadline) is assigned. This process restarts at the next application date. Therefore... by definition, there is no 2 year wait list. Everyone has the same chance every year. Just get their early and camp out in line.:banghead:

I live in Norcal, and last year I applied to 25 nursing schools (accepted at three). I was number 187 on the waiting list at Ohlone College. Some of the ADN programs I applied to in SoCal had 3-4 year waiting lists (Glendale cc, College of the Canyons cc, Pasadena cc, etc). I'm in my last semester of an ABSN program in Sacto, and even though it's incredibly expensive and sometimes crushingly difficult, I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and decided to go for it. Now if I can just finish school and find a job...

Yes, the waiting list at Solano Community College is looooooong! I have been waiting for two and a half years now...and I am not even sure i'll be able to get in this spring as I was unable to get a straight answer from anybody. So, if I don't make it this spring (2010) then my wait will be three years long. I have aleady passed the TEAS test and still nothing

I'm from Redding and Shasta College has a crazy long waiting list! Currently I am # 210 on the waitlist and they take 30 people a semester!! But I applied to Several BSN programs and I got into one of them and will be starting in the fall, so I wwill soon call and remove myself form that waitlist and give someone else a spot :) My plan was to use the ASN program as a backup plan and fulfill the prereqs for a BSN program and if i didnt get into a BSN program, go get a Bachelors in a related field (like Health science or health education) and then go back for my Nursing - and that way i was guaranteed that i would start nursing school eventually.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.
