Good day:
Are any of you using an ipad with stylus to take notes? If yes, which ipad (full, mini), and which stylus? What app(s) do you use for note taking, note management, etc?
How is using an ipad working out for you compared to using regular pen and pencil?
Are there times you miss using pen/pencil and paper? What are those circumstances?
Do you find yourself using pen/pencil and paper for some things still? If yes, what?
Thank you for your time.
Used Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and the 8.0. Downloaded that full power point onto the 10.1 (only because I didn't like the case I had and didn't feel comfortable writing on it because of this). I would then have access to any of the notes that the teacher wrote at the bottom of the ppt slide.
I would then create (on my windows comp at home or work) a PDF of slides. Basically, I would save the PDF with 3 slides on a page so I would have room to write on the side of each slide. Fewer total pages and more slides right in front of me. I would then upload to drop box and then on the Note 8.0, import them into SNOTE, built in note taking app from Samsung that works with the S-Pen.
I would then be able to write directly onto the power point slides that I imported into Snote.
It was very easy to do and took less than 5 minutes to do that all (took me longer to type all this up then it does to get myself and 2 tablets ready for class)
I would then record the lecture on one of the tablets and if there was something particularly important or that I didn't understand, I would then put the time stamp on the page we were on in the power point...the best part was that I could add a tag to the place in the note so I could actually search for any of my little tags without having to go through every single slide.
I have an Spen that is bigger than the ones that come with the actual tablets, it is about the same size as a pen and it even has an "eraser" on the back. The tip is the size of a medium ball point pen, not a big stylus bulb. I loved it, it was so easy to do.
You can then export anything you create as a PDF and then print it out. The hand writing looks just like my own.
Almost everyone else that I was in group with had ipads and one would take notes on hers. One other person had the same tablet as myself but I honestly don't know if she used hers as much as I used mine.
Now, the reason I have two, couldn't decide which size I liked better. I also have dropsync, which syncs my drop box on all accounts with 1 touch of a button so I would have access to anything that I did on one tablet on the other in 1 touch. I always that the 8.0 in my purse so I have all my text books and all my notes and recordings no matter where I am.
I have a better case on the 10.1 now so it could fit in my purse but it makes it just a little too uncomfortable. But I use them differently.
Sorry for the novel...I am exhausted and not too long ago found out the grades from the finals I took today and passed both of my nursing classes so I am a little delirious :) Plus I love talking about the tech I use because I love to have it all at my fingertips and to impart knowledge where ever I can lol
Just wanted to leave my preference too. I used my iPad for my A&P classes, I HATED the styluses! Ugh it was a pain, so I looked for a tablet with a digitizer display/pen. That is what allows you to write on a tablet with what looks like a pen and you can even rest your hand on the tablet and it doesn't interfere. I got a Samsung ATIV tab 3 for the sole purpose of note taking. It runs Windows 8, so it will have OneNote, Evernote and many other apps, plus powerpoint to take notes directly on slides. The tablet itself is SLOW in terms of todays technology, I don't care because the digitizer pen and screen work so flawlessly together it doesn't miss a thing. Plus, with Word you can write and it converts to text in a document! I am debating about getting a recorder, but will try the tablet first to see how well it does. Hope that helps!
Good day:
My wife allowed me to treat myself to an iPad Air for Christmas. I started using it before the semester started (this past Monday) to learn and practice.
The first week of using it for classes went well. I'm mainly using a $7.95 stylus (amPen Hybrid) for input. I use GoodNotes for annotating PDF files as well as note taking for both virtual classes and on campus classes. This past A&P 2 lab involved me taking 153 pictures of various models that will be used in our first exam.
My main go to apps are as follows:
* GoodNotes - hand writing notes and document annotation.
* Evernote - mainly for holding research notes, web site clips, and other material.
* Scanner Pro - very handy to scan documents on site.
* Kindle (Amazon) - reading a book
* FlashCards Delux -- great app that integrates with quizlet, cram, etc.
* Quizlet
* DropBox
Other useful apps include the following:
* 3D Brain - great app to get views of different structures of the brain along with notes.
* iTunes University - great app for watching lectures.
* Youtube
* Puffin Free - for when you need a Flash-based browser on the ipad
* Medscape
* Safari
So far it looks like I will be as close to paperless as possible for this semester.
Please let me know if any of you have questions; and I'll do my best to answer and share experiences.
Thank you.
Hi!
For handwriting notes with stylus you have Penultimate. But in my opinion, you better get used to type your notes on the ipad, it's mpre handy and helpful. With handwritten notes you can't use them for other pruposes. With typed notes and appropirate apps you can make useful reuse of your notes. In my case I use Beesy for profesisonal use. The notes I take are used to update my calendar, todos and projects. This kind of feature can't be done with handwritten note, not yet I guess.
Actually stylus is good for drawing on ipad and for that you have great apps like paper,which I recommend.

Good day:
Thank you everyone for sharing. This semester ends for me next week; then a TEAS V test on Monday the 16th. Once that's over, I hope to go shopping for an ipad based on what everyone has shared to date.
Thank you.
