Are test banks allowed if the professor doesn't use them

If you know for sure the teacher doesn't use them (makes up their own tests) is it ok to use as a guide or practice? Like from study blue or quizlet? Thanks.

There was a thread over a year ago, where the poster got caught with a test bank and was removed from a program.

There are many other student sources out there where you can study from; you DON'T know whether your instructor uses them or not; best to err on the side of caution and not use them.

No. No. No. If it's obtained illegally, it is just that - illegal and unethical.

How are they to know if you keep your mouth shut?

This is going to make me sound stupid but what is a test bank?

Let me google that for you

Do not use it. Like others have said, there are oodles of study resources out there. Why use one that makes you nervous enough to ask a question about it on AN?

Test banks that are meant only for the use of instructors, no those are not okay to use. As previous poster said those obtained by students are usually done so illegally, and that is a huge ethical issue which can get you kicked out of your program for academic dishonesty. Quizlet, and from what I can see about the other site study blue are not test banks. I would still be careful using them especially if using something that someone else posted on there. When I have used Quizlet in the past I usually have used it to make my own flashcards that I study from.

Sorry I did not reply right away I had trouble getting my password to work and reset it. Yes I'm asking because now I wonder. Quizlet is available free with thousands of questions to practice. Who knows if those are test banks sometimes. Other times they are marked as test banks then other times marked as student notes and then there's thousands of questions that aren't marked. It's a awesome free resource for students! I'm not about to ask my professor and be targeted as a cheater or someone to watch and question when I get a 100.

I will stop using study blue for sure because that's questionable and not ethical after reading these replies. However quizlet is like hundreds of free nclex test books in one!! I use the test mode in quizlet. Maybe nursing schools will need to change and not use test banks anymore if quizlet is using them????

I know a few people who liked quizlet - until they started finding incorrect information on flash cards that other users had created. There's no way to tell who makes those things and what resource they use. Also, yes, I've heard of people copying test questions word for word in to quizlet.

It's one thing to use it to make your own flash cards and quiz yourself, but why not just use a validated source if you're looking up information? Even Khan Academy has NCLEX prep now, not to mention excellent pathophys review modules.

As far as test banks go... Just no. Seriously, just use the resources provided to you or other reputable nursing resources like Mosby's, Medscape, Khan Academy, NCLEX Mastery, the multimedia supplement with your book.... etc etc etc

I wouldn't recommend them. They are only intended for instructors. Also... you have to know if for NCLEX so you might as well learn it now
