Are you required to use "in house " cell phones??

Published

Hi,

We have a very loud, inaudible overhead paging system. Recently all med surg units were given "spector link" (i think thats what they call them) phones. The unit secretary can transfer all your calls to your phone. If you are trying to find an RN or aide , you can just call them on the phone. Admin is telling us that if you loose or damage the phones it will cost you $1,000.00!! I want to know if anyone is using such phones and also, how can an employer require you to use something and then have the right to fine you if it becomes damaged??

thanks,

Maureen

Shhhhhhh don't tell my admin! They would so use it and I, being the only nurse for 160 patients will NEVER get anything done!

We use walkies and far from perfect, they do work fine for our needs most of the time!

We switched phone services lately and all our phones were down and us nurses had to use our personal cel phones to do anything for a weekend when our admin wouldn't pay extra for weekend phone co to come out! UHGG! And did they pay us for our minutes...NO! They said if it wasn't a serious life threatening emergency it wasn't worth the call! Okay I called 9-11 3 times that weekend!!!!!!! And the other calls were done to prevent the call to 9-11! Uhgggggggggg! I have yet to win my minute pay back!!!!!

My company would be like the one that charges if you damage the phone!!!! but they would buy used and still charge as much as 100% X the new price!!!!!!!

No thanks...I will stick with the walkies ;)

on my current assignment we gotta have them...... called ascoms

anything from a doc call to pt family call to another nurse call, to a call light call,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

i don't really like it.

They aren't "checked out" to us.......... we simply pick up a phone at beginning of shift and it's noted with the unit clerk our number.

We use them in the ED and they are great - no more running around trying to find people. Really good when an acute patient comes in and youn need the doc right away.

The best part of my shift is handing my phone to the oncoming nurse!
