  1. Great thread. A few months ago in the AJN, an infection control expert debunked the myth that gloves are necessary for SQ injections. Makes sense. Whoever bled from an insulin injection?
  2. https://allnurses.com/forums/# Tabascosass, wow! 1 RN to 10-17 telemetry patients is beyond the pale. Must be nerve-wracking. Just curious, what part of the country are you in? At my hospital we have a 60 bed PCU divided (like others have said) between an interventional zone, medical cardiac tx, and of course the CABG patch (post OHS). Nurses are cross trained to all 3 zones. We do pull sheaths and manage cardiac gtts. Days: 1 RN to 3-5 pts. Eves: 1 RN to 4-5 pts and Nocs (my shift): 4-6 pts. Another question everyone: How many hospitals hire new nursing grads for telemetry floors?
  3. I suggest applying to multiple schools. More applications=better odds. Keep in mind that an ADN will get you the same job as an BSN if your interest is bedside nursing. Good Luck!
  4. Hi Bria, I, too, started nursing school only to postpone it. Now I am an RN working in a hospital on our telemetry floor. Part of my motivation to stick with school the second time around was knowing that it was round two. The biggest secret of finishing nursing school is DON'T QUIT! Congratulations on your new program and good luck! Paula.
  5. Try this technique. Before I leave a pt room, I take a few moments to stop and scan the room. Does my pt have all that they need? Bed in appropriate position, call light within reach, water pitcher ect...Also, have I done everything I came in to do? Are there any other tasks I can take care of now? Believe me, an extra moment now will save time in the long run and guard against safety lapses. By the by, I think that "siderails as restraints" applies in long term care, but not in a hospital setting. Good luck in school! It will be finished in a blink! Really.
  6. Just keep on keepin' on.
  7. The best part of my shift is handing my phone to the oncoming nurse!
  8. Overtime for straight pay? Thanks but no-thanks. Of course, I rarely work overtime even for time and a half. Just lazy, I guess.
  9. No vaccines at my hospital for patients or staff. Of course they are trying to get a hold of some, but no luck so far.
  10. Hi! In my class students in their 30's and 40's outnumbered the younger students. Good Luck to you!
