Are there any online A&P or Microbiology classes available?

Nursing Students Online Learning

Does anyone know of any online/distance education Anatomy & Physiology or Microbiology classes that are available?

I am currently living in Italy but trying to get some pre-requisite courses completed via the internet before we return to the States and I begin nursing school.

Thanks for any input and advice!!

I'm doing my A&P, Chem & Micro at CCC and it's all online. I believe it's less expensive than Rio too.

What is CCC??? I think Rio's classes are $46 per credit hour. Micro is completely on-line??

I'm in the class now (and should be doing schoolwork instead of Allnurse) and their is no hands on portion. The lab is web-based where we'll be looking at several bio sites with slide and such. I haven't done the first lab yet.

I was kinda concerned before the class started because I was having trouble getting people to give me straight answers about the format. I enrolled on the premiss that I could drop the class without penalty or cost once it started if it was not a format that worked for me.

I'd recomment them and will be taking more classes.:D

Colorado Community College's

They are pricey, costing about $800 after books. It's a 4 credit 201 class

Yes, I know what you mean, I should be studying too, but I just found this site and now I need to catch up on all the posts!!! I did check on them, they are expensive. I am in 202 right now. I think I will stick with Rio for 205 even though I have to drive 45 min. each way to get to the lab. There are only 4 labs that I have to go to though, so it is not too bad, I guess. How far along are you in your studies? If all goes well, I should be able to apply to nursing school next fall. Keep your fingers crossed!!! Good luck with your bio!

Try athabascau.ca. This is a Canadian university with tonnes of distance courses. I took A&P and used it as a pre-req for nursing school. Your only problem might be with the exams, as you have to find someone to invigilate them. (I went to a local Toronto college for mine). However, I think they do make allowances for people outside of Canada--it's all on their website. Good luck!

Hi CandelaLee,

I am currently takin develpmental Psy with CCConline and so far the problems have been minimal. (mostly technical)

All requirements are via online, no proctored exams, trips to lab etc.

As for online A&P my daughter is currently taking A&P I online with RioSalado. Her experience is very much like Coldfoot's. Dates and requirements set. The only difference for her class is that she has to take a proctored mid term and final at our local library. She doesn't have a problem with that.

I am also scheduled to take Chemistry and Micro online although I have not decided which of the following online classes I will take as that is two semesters away.

For Chemistry:

Weber State U. -www.weber.edu (not sure class number)5 credits

Colorado CC - http://www.ccconline.org CHE111 5 credits

St. Louis CC - http://www.stlcc.cc.mous/fpdocs CHM101 5 credits

For Micro

Lake Superior College - http://www.lsc.mnscu.edu BIOL1170.55 3 cr

Colorado CC - http://www.ccconline.org GIO204 4cr

Since our program requires a combined credit total of 8 credits b/w chem and micro I am leaning toward the lake superior for micro.

CCConline utililzes a list of colleges in Colorado. You have to be registered with one on the list and then you can enroll. I enrolled in Arapahoe College as they didn't have any residency requirements or enrollment fees.

Good luck, and let us know how you make out.

I am new at this so please bare with me.

I have a question for COLDFOOT.....

Have you taken the Microbiology class at CCConline??? What did you think of the course and how difficult would you say it was taking it online???? How were the labs??? Basically can you please give me an overall of the class as I am thinking of taking it in the Summer 04.

I just would like to know to make a final decision on where I am going to take the class.

Thanks for all your help..

Lori

I have only taken the one A&P class that I'm in now but it's great for me. I think the instructor has a lot to do with it and would recomend Chris Dugan to anyone.

Basically this is how the class works (and this really is the Readers Digest version :D )

The units are one or two weeks long. The more work/knowledge required, the more time. The assignments for the whole class are listed on day one but you can't turn in assignments or take quizes untill the first day of the alloted time for that unit (Did I make ANY sense their?)

The general requirements for each unit are to post and respond to others on the class BB twice per unit, keep a two page (Everything is 12 point double space Yay!:) ) learning journal, and do the lab. The labs are all done online, evaluating slide via the web (from site listed in the course). You also take a 20 question online quiz that is timed for 1 hour once per unit. This is all the stuff that is turned in.

In addition you do a couple exercises through the publishers web site and do the workbook info for each unit.

It looks like a lot but as long as you stay on top of it, it's not bad and you really do learn a lot.

Hello Coldfoot,

Do you know if that instructor teaches Microbiology??? When are you planning on taking the Microbiology course??? I wanted to take the Microbiology course in the Summer 04. Do you have an opinion on the Summer courses versus the full semester course???

Are the labs very hard???? I have never taken an on-line course and this will probably be the only one until I get out of the RN program which I start in Spring 04.

If there is anyway that I can e-mail you directly about the CCConline I would appreciate it. My e-mail address is [email protected] . Please let me know.

Thanks- Lori
