Are there any Oklahoma ABSN students out there?

Hello,

I would like some information on the program, how do you like it? Would you pick this school again if you had the chance? I am applying to the program that is being held here in San Diego. I am nervous about the online portion of the program, is it do-able? :uhoh3:

Thanks!

I agree that it would have been nice to get first hand experiences from students, perhaps the girls in the association could answer some questions.

I wasn't aware of the option of night vs day clinicals. Do they assign us to them? Is the night just evening or is it over night? I don't think I am ready to think during the night, LOL.

I plan on getting my books on half.com or amazon.com as well but have to wait for some $$$...some loan money would be nice! :D

I am a little stressed about all the stuff we have to take care of too but already got one TB test done...I guess I'm on my way. :uhoh3:

Do you all like the color of the uniform? I love it, its so pretty! :lol2:

I asked my friend who is in an ASN program which supplies to get she said a stethescope and BP cuff are crucial, will also need a pen light and tape scissors. Kelly forceps would be nice (she said they are good for clamping off tubing, etc) and tape would be good but most hospitals have that in stock.

She couldn't stress enough the importance of comfortable shoes and she also suggested support stockings. She also has a PDA and loves that she doesn't have to drag her books to clinical, its all just right there in case her pt gets a new med or something. I thought it was funny that they didn't stress the supplies we will need, perhaps they will at a later date. I have a pretty raspberry steth, so excited to use it!

Yes, the clinicals are assigned. I think the shifts can be anytime...for example, 6-2 or 2-10. I've never heard of overnight clinicals for studnets. I'm sure the clinical professors would rather be home sleeping too!

Good, I'm glad that they aren't overnight, I thought that would be weird and I've never heard of that for clinicals :lol2:

Does anyone have Phillis email and phone number? i can't seem to find it anywhere. I only have Kenessas.

Yeah I will definitely by my books on half.com/amazon.com. I am lucky to have friends who are giving me their nursing books that we require that they also have :yeah: So now I only have to spend less than 400!

I love the color of the scrubbs... I am so glad its not white or some ugly color! haha!

I sent you a PM with her email address, don't have her number, sorry.

So I was attempting to apply for the needlestick coverage they recommended and it is not time for enrollment. Has anyone else come across this problem? :banghead: I emailed the website but they haven't responded yet.

Also, are you all making appointments for your titers? The only one I need is the chicken pox one...my employer (Scripps) accepts the fact that I had it so I never got one. Argh.

The CPR thing is really annoying...I have a card that is good for two years but I still have to get it renewed...dang it! :argue:

Ok, sorry, I had to vent :saint: I just thought I would be able to enjoy my last month of freedom for 14 months, LOL. Hope I'm not the only one that feels that way...:uhoh21:

I emailed Kennessa about the insurance waiver/needlestick coverage. She said that we needed to wait for a few weeks until the "enrollment period." I'm not sure what or when that is :-)

Have any of you tried to fill out the form if you already have health insurance? i tried the link they gave us, but its not working?

I am in the same boat with you where my CPR card doesn't expire til july of 09.. so now we gotta pay another fee to get a new one. So stressful! But at least we only have to do the CPR renewal class!

Specializes in Telemetry, Observation, Rehab, Med-Surg.

yeah, i tried to get the needlestick coverage but it didn't allow me too. we can probably ask kennessa about that.

I also tried to waive the health insurance but it didnt' let me do that. i emailed kennessa and she said to wait a couple of weeks before waiving it since its not the enrollment period yet.

yeah, the renewing the cpr thing annually sucks.

Has anyone found a CPR class yet? I am trying to get everything done quickly since we basically have only two more weeks (well my CPR expires in August but I want to get it done now because who knows what it will be like in August with time, etc!) Maybe we can all sign up for the same class? That would be fun, right? :lol2:

I got my CPR card from Pomerado Health a year ago. They have renewal classes for $40 bucks and they are only 3 hours. but they are only offered on Saturdays.

here is the link: https://www.pph.org/default.aspx?nd=273

i am thinking of doing the one scheduled may 10, there are 21 seats left.
