Are there any Oklahoma ABSN students out there?

Hello,

I would like some information on the program, how do you like it? Would you pick this school again if you had the chance? I am applying to the program that is being held here in San Diego. I am nervous about the online portion of the program, is it do-able? :uhoh3:

Thanks!

I got my email today too! Does anyone have any info in regards to what exactly we HAVE to pay for and how much we need to have available for the orientation?? I am stressing out because I am in escrow on a house so everything has to stay pretty steady financially and I need to go look under some rocks :)

I got my email today too! Does anyone know what exactly we have to purchase at the orientation and how much we have to be prepared to bring total to it? I ask because my husband and I are in escrow and everything has to stay pretty even on the financial front so I have to go look under some rocks :rcgtku:

I am moving from norcal and I wanted to know if anyone knew of good areas to live in San Diego. Where should I be looking? Near Sharp on Kenyon St.? I am looking for apts. mostly. 1bd/ba.

CONGRATS EVERYONE! I started in June! And be sure to enjoy your next month of freedom!

On our orientation day, we had to pay for a lab bag, and they give you an option of buying a book package which includes the electronic version of the book (and that is the only day you can buy it) I chose to purchase my books all through half.com. And also uniforms will be available for purchase. Prices may have changed so I won't give you any amounts.

Basically they just talk about getting everything done, immunizations, drugs tests, background checks, all that fun stuff in very little time to do it in! :banghead:

So good luck! and hope to see you guys around! :lol2:

Understanding that prices may have changed...can anyone just give me a ball park of what they were when you started? 1k, 2k, $200...I can't imagine they would change that drastically. Anything would help! Thanks!

Wireless 101...that is a pretty good area here and there but if you want to contact me directly I can help you find something in a decent neighborhood.

for the lab bag i think i paid $105?

for the scrubs, i bought 2 sets,, plus the community shirt, patches, lab coat and spent between $100-150

the book package was over $1000? maybe between 1200-1400? i can't remember, but i know it was over 1000. (i didn't buy the book package, i spent about 500-600 on half.com)

from what i remember that's all i spent that day

Congrats everyone!!! I started in June as well. During the first orientation, they offered a book package for around $1300 (I bought mine from Amazon & I think it was a little cheaper) The lab bag was $110. A lady will be there from Ace Uniforms- she takes orders for scrubs. I think she also sells shoes & labcoats. They made it seem like we had to buy a labcoat, which I did, but we have not needed it thus far! I bought 2 sets of scrubs, a labcoat, penlight, 3 patches, an OU polo which ran about $145. When all was said and done, I spent at least 2K on books and necessities.

The program has been great so far. It will definitely keep you busy. It's kind of funny because at orientation they told us to say good-bye to our families, and I think most of us thought 'yeah, right'. But they weren't joking. I haven't seen my friends in the last month and half, and I think I only see my fiance because I live with him. Not trying to scare you, but prepare you. I didn't feel mentally prepared to deal with amount of work that was required. And I didn't really think it could be that fast-paced...until the first week-it will be a overwhelming to say the least.

On a positive note- it gets better! As soon as you get a routine down, things fall in place. And the hard work will pay off in the end.

Congratulations Again!!!

Thanks for all the info. It definitely helps to know what I am getting into. From the sound of things I should be glad I don't work...or really have a life at all right now with school so...not too much of a change lol. Just 14 months...we just have to help each other keep our eye on that light at the end of the tunnel and become each others new family! :) thanks again ladies!

mrscarina: Any info. on neighborhoods and apts. in the area would help. From what I can find online, 1bd/1ba cost between 1k - 1500k. I don't have any idea as to where to begin searching.

Wireless,

I'd recommend checking out apts. in these areas:

ocean beach

point loma

mission hills

hillcrest

bankers hill

little italy

north park

south park

----

OB and point loma are closest to the school.

Check craigslist!

Little Italy and North Park are great! (Especially if you're single and want a place in a safe neighborhood). Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and UTC are all close! I'm a realtor by day, and would love to help you with your search! Nicole

I agree with those areas, some places in North Park are not that great so be cautious there. There are good areas but some bad areas.
