Are there any Oklahoma ABSN students out there?

Hello,

I would like some information on the program, how do you like it? Would you pick this school again if you had the chance? I am applying to the program that is being held here in San Diego. I am nervous about the online portion of the program, is it do-able? :uhoh3:

Thanks!

Another question for those in the program already...

Have you needed Microsoft Access? They have it listed in the "recommended software" but I have an iMac and a MacbookPro and neither have Access. And they don't actually make access for Macs... so I'm wondering how we would get around this, if they actually make us use it...

Thanks so much!

You don't need Microsoft Access. All you need is Word and Powerpoint.

Does anyone know the total cost of the program? My financial aid letter says $19,000 for the fall '08 & spring '09, but is it going to be the same for summer and fall '09? Also, what lenders did people go with?

I emailed Kannessa at the beginning of June regarding the total tuition and she referred me to the financial aid office. They told me the full tuition is $34,542.

Wow! 19k! Lucky! haha I heard it was 34k too but the financial aid office has someone assigned to you and they can better tell you how the financial aid breaks down. I know that summer 09 is included in the FASFA 09-10 application so you have to fill out a new one in Feb/Mar of 09 for summer 09. As far as my financial aid person told me, the total aid package sent to me from them included what I am eligible for this whole 08-09 school year (all semesters) because their location breaks them down differently.

I chose B of A for my lender because I have accounts there and they give me a discount rate on my loans. My unsubsidized loans ended with a 5.8 fixed and the subsidized ended at 5.0. Check them all out, they're pretty similar across the board but some have a higher origination fee and some offer a quarter point to a half point discount on your rate if you meet certain criteria.

Any one currently in the program who didn't buy the electronic version of the books, do you think it may have been helpful for you in retrospect? Do you have to carry books around with you all day during clinicals and stuff??

Congrats! I'm in the program now and didn't buy the book package. I bought most of my books online which was cheaper. I'm doing fine in my classes but there are some times when I wish that I had them! First, you'll have open book quizzes for some of the classes. When doing the quiz, it would be nice to use the "find" feature to look for the answer! Also, some clinical groups (8 people) will break up the workload and make notes for each other. This is really helpful. If you have the e-books, it's easy to cut and paste the important material to share. If not, you type your notes and reference the page number in the book. It's not the end of the world...those are the only two times when I wish I had the e-books. Also, when you buy the e-books you'll get 2 downloads. You can use one for your laptop and one for a home computer....or, you can use one download and share/sell the other. I hope this helps!

No, you don't have to carry all of your books around. In clinical, each member of your group can bring one book and share, that way not everyone is bringing a bag full of books. The other times that you'll be on campus, you'll have to bring one or two books. It's not that bad. Some students have the backpacks on rollers...

Well if anyone feels like sharing/selling that other download I am interested! :heartbeat:bow:

I also chose not to buy the book package. And I am doing fine in all of my classes. I agree that the only time I wished I had it was when I need to copy and paste stuff when we split objectives for the group. It saves me time. But otherwise, I am totally fine without it.

I went with the medcap loan w/ Wells Fargo. After talking with people a lot of them did so also. I heard negative things from other students that chose to do Sallie Mae. They had a hard time, and some of them still don't have their financial aid money yet. Wells Fargo was very fast. I was approved that day. The only set back was waiting on OU to approve it and disperse the funds.

I'd be interested in splitting the other download since I don't think I'll need to have the books on 2 laptops.

That would be awesome! We can work something out. Will you be at the open house tonight? I am the brown haired girl with the lip ring in my bottom lip, I will be coming with a classmate who got in the program too. If so...we can talk then or exchange info.
