APU BSN Summer 2021

Published

Hey everyone,

I have just submitted my application for the Summer BSN program at APU. Has anyone else submitted their application or would anyone else like to share their stats?

Science GPA: 3.16

Overall: 3.66

Specializes in Critical Step-Down.

Does anyone recall how long it took them to get back a course eval based on their official transcripts? My transcript deliverance took forever because of an issue on my previous college's end and now I'm thinking APU is slammed with evals because it's close to deadline time.

It took my program rep to give me my transcript evaluation about a week. I think they’re just slammed like you said since the deadline is right around the corner!

Hello everyone! Fellow LVN to BSN applicant here. *hi. I just submitted my application yesterday. This is the most intense process I have gone through since LVN school.  I’m a ball of nerves!

Those are great stats! I think you should have nothing to worry about. My stats are about the same and I’m scared as well. This whole process is just nerve wracking especially when you have to wait to find out!

Hey there!

I’m currently a 3rd semester LVN-BSN student at the Monrovia campus. I remember how nerve wracking it was for me while waiting to hear back about acceptance so I thought I’d share my experience about applying. I received an email at the end of February in 2020 inviting me to take a skills and written competency exam which was $300. They ended up canceling the exam due to COVID. I had originally applied for Spring 2020 and was denied admission (Cum: 3.1/Science: 3.4) I reapplied with the same application for Summer 2020 not thinking I’d get in and was accepted. For reference I have 5 years of pediatric experience as an LVN in various settings. Feel free to ask me any questions you guys have regarding the program! I know how hard it can be getting info on all this stuff. Wishing everyone luck on their applications and nursing journeys!!

What does the competency exam consist of? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for sharing. :) did they tell you why you were denied originally? Also, for the skills test is that because you are an LVN already? I am applying straight for the BSN program and I haven’t heard about a skills exam for that. Unless I just haven’t been told about it yet.

I believe the competency exam was just to confirm our skills as LVN. They’ve done away with it since COVID though. Now they make you take a class instead- UNRS106 which is called Foundations of Professional Nursing.

Hello all,

I am a current student in the 2+2 program, and wanted to offer encouragement to everyone applying! I remember the application process and waiting for the decisions was SO nerve wracking, but worth it in the end. If anyone has any questions in regards to the program, I’d gladly give some feedback/answers!

congrats to everyone applying!

Hello! Thanks for taking time for supporting us and offering your help! How is your schedule like? I have a one year old and I’m terrified of how I’m going to handle nursing school and her at the same time. Do you know of any parents in the program as well and how they manage? Thank you!

I have an 18 month old son and an 8 year old daughter. My son was 9 months old when I started the program. Most of my cohort has children. We all feel that parent guilt having to be away from family due to lecture, skills, or clinical but just remember it’s only temporary. COVID has made it a lot easier to get through school as a parent since it’s online and more flexible. My daughter was 2 when I was in LVN school and I thought that was much more difficult since we had to attend in person.
