Well I am posting another thread. After up and downs and medical scares I will finally be graduating from my college with a BA in history and minor in african american studies in Spring 2011.
I will be applying to my absolute first choice ABSN as soon as the application is out this week(even though it is not due till Spring of next year). The sooner I hand it in the sooner I get a decision.
Everyone just post the schools you plan on applying to, your GPA ( if you want), and GRE scores (if you want and if applicable), and if you want where you plan t end up with nursing one day.
My schools ( in order of preference):
1. Concordia College (NY)
2. New York University
3. Dominican College (NY)
4. Hunter College
My overall GPA (avg. three colleges) is a 3.0-3.3. My GPA at my present school is a 4.0 over three semesters. I hope to become a Neonatal NP and one day practice internationally.

HEY!!
I almost did not recognize you. You changed your username. I went to my PM's and noticed the username changed on your msgs to me too so it confirmed my suspicion.
As you know, I was accepted to Drexel for Spring 2011 but $$ is what's holding me back from giving them a green light to their offer (would definitely go otherwise). Besides, I have since decided that it's best for me to defer to Fall 2011 (have a work contract through May now) so working on that and want to see how finances go. In the meantime, I am applying to other schools just in case: Stony Brook (was waitlisted for summer '10 and never called, reapplying for 2011), UCF and UNF (both in Florida), Phillips Beth Israel (my backup ADN program), and just today decided to apply to NYU as well. My cum GPA is @ 3.4 now and @ 3.8 in prereqs (depending on the school and what prereqs are required. Without Dev Psych, I have a 4.0).
Concordia sounds like a nice program, and I am happy to hear that they were just accredited. However, like I told you once I don't like the fact that they require chemistry within the last 5 years, since my chem just became 5 years old this year and I refuse to take that over for just for one school. Everyone else does not give chem a time limit. UF (Gainesville) not only wants GRE but also wants all their prereqs within 7 years which means I would have to repeat statistics and dev psych, and that I also won't do just for one program. Off the list they came.
GOOD LUCK! Hope this thread flourishes with other folks!
Yeah I changed the username...lol... I got tired of how long it was.
Well you can add Drexel to my list. I hope the $$$ works out in the long run for me. But only time will tell. Some other programs I am interested in begin in January and I want to start nursing ASAP...so I do not plan on applying to those programs.
I hope you get into the cheapest yet best program on your list.
I ma confident that we will hear some very good news this year..... Then we will become BSN prepared nurses...and then one day be alumni of Columbia's NNP program (crosses fingers)
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention in my post where I want to end up in nursing, LOL. But you already know that. Columbia's NNP is the goal for sure!

Hey - I would love to join this thread. I am applying to ABSN-MSN programs which offer specialities in midwifery. I am currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ghana, West Africa, and trying to apply to programs starting in spring 2011. it is quite diffacult appying from here, so I could use all the help I can get.
Programs I found that interest me and I am applying to:
Johns Hopkins
Vanderbilt
University of Pennsylvania
Emory
Oregon Health and Sciences University
I have not even begun to think about money yet...that will come when I get accepted somewhere. I graduated in 2007 with a biology and music degree, with a 3.7 GPA. I got a 1200 on the GRE, 4 on the writing portion. I have about a 3.5 in my pre-reqs. Any more ideas on where I can apply or what I should think about when applying?
Thanks!!!

Columbia University? It has what sounds like you're looking for in a nursing program as well.

Hey everyone!
I'm applying to A-BSN and EL-MSN programs for fall 2011 entry.
Concordia University, Irvine
UCLA
CSU, Fullerton
CSU, Northridge
Mount St. Mary's College, LA
B.A. in Psychology GPA - 3.4
Pre-req GPA - 3.7
GRE - N/A
My goal is to work as an RN in a burn ICU. I've been volunteering at a hospital for the last 2 years, which has shown me that nursing is the career for me. I can't wait to actually get in there as a real nurse.
I'm very excited to finally be applying but I'm also extremely nervous! I know how competitive these programs are, I will be lucky to get into even one. I wonder if I should apply to more schools or if I should just focus on the ones I have already decided on.

I applied to an ABSN for Fall 2010, but found out that the class is full. They take about 55 students. So, my application is being held for review for the Spring 2011.
School of choice: UMDNJ (Newark, NJ)
In the meantime, I'm also applying to the NS at my CC for the Spring 2011, just in case I don't get in my first choice school. The school has an accelerated associates degree program.
Graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Information Technology & Informatics
Undergrad GPA: 3.2; Prereq GPA: 3.5 (still taking prereqs required for other school)
My goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner so I can work with peds and adults. Might as well go for the DNP in the long run.
Well good luck everyone with their applications. I just decided to apply to the ABSN program at Pace University, Drexel, College of New Rochelle, UPENN, and Columbia U along with the other schools that I had already listed. The last three programs are really $$$ but I really do not want to move out the state unless I can help it. The hospitals I hope to work at one day usually hire people who are graduates from local programs. Concordia is still my number one choice but due to the fact that I am applying to so many programs that use rolling admissions I have to apply early to them all. The plan was to wait for the reply from Concordia before applying anywhere else but that really is not a smart decision.
I guess I will get in and then I will figure out the costs. Now I have to study for the GRE...........
For those who are applying to the UPENN ABSN program, there is a chat session tonight at 7:00pm...just FYI - maybe we can all get more of our questions answered. Good luck everyone in their applications!

Hi,
I just joined AllNurses.com and have been contemplating obtaining my ABSN as of last year. Slowly, very slowly, I'm working towards it. I graduated from Oregon State Univ in 2003 with a degree in health care administration and currently work as an Administrator in NYC. This Sunday, actually, I start my first pre-req class at BMCC, A&P. Does anyone have any advice or information for me? I will not be attending the BMCC nursing program and plan to apply to Binghamton, John Hopkins, MU South Carolina and possibly UNC Chapel Hill.
Also, how many schools would be good to apply to? 5-10? THanks for all your help out there and good luck to everyone!

Defintely apply to at least 2, that's my recommedation ... 3 might be better. I applied to only one ABSN last year and I was waitlisted; the class filled up and I was never chosen. So here I go applying once again this year to that same school plus 4 others (actually one of those other 4 has actually accepted me recently but am holding out for a less expensive option). Definitely consider your state schools as an option, they usually are the best bang for your buck.
