APPLYING TO ABSN for Spring or Fall 2011

Published

Well I am posting another thread. After up and downs and medical scares I will finally be graduating from my college with a BA in history and minor in african american studies in Spring 2011.

I will be applying to my absolute first choice ABSN as soon as the application is out this week(even though it is not due till Spring of next year). The sooner I hand it in the sooner I get a decision.

Everyone just post the schools you plan on applying to, your GPA ( if you want), and GRE scores (if you want and if applicable), and if you want where you plan t end up with nursing one day.

My schools ( in order of preference):

1. Concordia College (NY)

2. New York University

3. Dominican College (NY)

4. Hunter College

My overall GPA (avg. three colleges) is a 3.0-3.3. My GPA at my present school is a 4.0 over three semesters. I hope to become a Neonatal NP and one day practice internationally.

I'm resurrecting this thread. I'm officially an ABSN student, starting in January 2011. Did anyone else find out yet?

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

The thread title fails to account for those ABSN hopefuls for SUMMER 2011. Wish to acknowledge those! :D ... I am still applying. Nothing yet on my end.

I have been following the Duke thread for the same program and lots of comments are posted.

I'm wondering if there is another thread for UNC Fall 2011 ABSN program?

The application process was sort of difficult and I have some questions regarding the history requirement (which I thought was odd)!

I'm a summer 2011 ABSN applicant! Thanks for the love; are you a fellow summer hopeful? I've only applied at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa since I live in Tulsa and relocating is not an option. It's scary to put all my eggs in one basket, especially since it meant turning down an acceptance to the local community colleges ADN program to wait and hear back from OU! According to their website they send out acceptance letters in January, but last year applicants to this program didn't find out until mid-Feb, so I'm trying to start working on patience now. I have a 3.8 GPA from my BA (in history, from the university of Nebraska), a 4.0 in my additional nursing pre-reqs (taken at the community college), and an 1170 on my GRE. I'm so nervous, even though my grades are good, because some of my credits are transferring weirdly and I'm worried that the person who reviews my application will be all frustrated with trying to sort it out and say, "screw it, this girl is too much work."

What about you, Paco? How many schools, and when will you hear?

malititi, did you finish applying to Hopkins and Vanderbilt? How has your experience with them been? I did my interview with Hopkins about a week after I submitted my application way back in November so its been painful waiting since then.

I am a current college senior (BA in Anthropology/Women's Studies) and am applying to ABSN/BSN-MSN programs. I studied abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, and shadowed two nurse-midwives there, and I really found my calling, so here I am! I ended up applying to 9 schools:

Seattle University

Johns Hopkins

Vanderbilt

SUNY Stony Brook

SUNY Downstate

University of Southern Maine (just got accepted! yey!)

UMass Amherst

NYU

University of Miami

I have a 3.9 undergrad, 3.88 pre-req, and my GREs were 1240 (5 writing). I'm still waiting to hear back from everywhere except USM, but I think I really want to go to Seattle. I'm trying not to get my hopes up for any one place because I don't want to end up devastated. I'm into one nursing school, and that's all I need! Best of luck to everyone, and happy waiting (Its the worst!!!)

mef06011 -- so... what school did you end up picking?!

Hey everyone,

I applied for the concordia irvine aBSN program for Fall 2011 and have not heard of any interview on my end... anyone out there get called already or know when they will be doing this?

genzey-I'm not sure if you've heard yet.. I got an email the first week of March inviting me to interview. There is another thread on here about the interviews. Just wanted to let you know..good luck!

Since my original post, I have updated my signature with the latest info on my applications. I applied to 5 ABSNs and 1 ADN as a backup. 4 ABSNs have said yes and I interviewed for the 5th last Fri; I expect a final decision letter from them this coming Thurs. The experience has been a blessing. I have turned down 2 ABSN offers due to costs and have withdrawn my application to the ADN, so it really boils down to 2-3 schools. I will know where I am going by the end of this week! I'm relieved I will finally know where I am headed! :D

Congrats to you! The ABSN programs are no joke, but it does go by quick.
